Recommend a "System of a Down" album.

I'm heading by the old record store today, mainly to pick up a copy of "The Departed" on DVD. But, I'll always grab some tunes while I'm in there.

I thought I might pick up some System of a Down. I've liked some of their releases, and I'm looking for something a little rockin'.

I like when a rock band gets a little out there, but not when the "out there" is the norm. . .e.g. Mr. Bungle is a little too much for me. I'm not attuned to the difference between their albums. Is their early stuff more experimental, or their later stuff. I've noticed that Rick Rubin is the producer on pretty much all of their albums, and that's the main source of bias leading me there.

I recommend Toxicity. It's my favorite, and it's also the least "out there."

agreed.

However, I enjoy Hypnotize and Mezmerize more than Toxicity. They certainly have more insane/annoying tracks than Tox, but the good stuff is really really good.


Also, they have an album floating around in the ether called "Steal This Album." They mean it too. Good stuff on it also. I'm particularly fond of the one whose title is just a buncha vowels. Can't remember it exactly.

Toxicity was always my favorite of theirs. Back in high school I used to get tab for their intros and try to play them. Way too hard obviously, but fun.

Toxicity and Steal This Album! are my two favorites. I really liked Mesmerize, not so much Hypnotize, though it had a few great songs too.

Generally speaking, I don't like System of a Down. At all. However, they do an extremely interesting cover of "The Metro." If you can find that, give it a listen. Wiki says it was from a demo tape, but it might be on another album too.
