recommend an mp3 player

Can anyone recommend a mp3 player with at least 1 gig of space, an easy to read screen (well lit, no grey writing on a slightly lighter background etc.) and simple interface? No ipods, and no creative products (bad luck with that brand).

Well, I've never owned an mp3 player with more than 512 megs onboard except for my creative zen micro, (which, yeah, has some issues, though I love my freebie 128meg creative nomad muvo, so mixed feelings about the creative brand.)

But my sandisk Sansa m230, which I love even more, has some 'big brother' models - the sansa m240 is 1 gig, m250 2 gig, and m260 4 gig if I recall correctly. Definitely give them a look if you can.

Also, RCA is pretty good for flash mp3 players.

And... well, maybe I'm condemning all hard drive players for the micro's faults, but I say go for flash memory always. Definitely.

I use the Sansa c240 (1 gig) for running and exercising and I love it. It's very lightweight and the rechargeable battery seems to last forever. I have a Phillips 30 gig for home use, and I have had no trouble with that one as well. I've had the Phillips for well over a year. I've dropped it, traveled far and wide with it, used it for running and exercising, and it still works like a champ.

What's wrong with iPods? I only ask because I have gone from the other stuff to an iPod and have never regretted it for one second. I won't bother you with my opinion though...

Can't speak for the OP, but there are far better deals on MP3 players that aren't iPods.

Plus, though anecdotal, I've hard nothing but horror stories from my friends who have owned iPods, including one who had to have it repaired 3 times.

In short, you're paying for a brand that just happens to play Mp3s.

This player is meant for someone who has been buying the eighty-eight cent downloads from walmart, which aren't iPod compatible. I've got an iPod myself, which decided to die a couple of weeks ago despite being two years old, so I am familiar with them. Thanks though.
