Just to interject (I'm on the Blue Team) - I don't want to reshuffle players. I like my team. We're not losing because we suck we're just extremely unfortunate :)

If we're going to go down, and go down this hard, I would rather it be with all the folks that helped get us down here, not with some other people. LOL

I still like my original guess of Sicilian pizza, but my second choice would be postage stamp.

ZipperJJ
04-15-2007, 01:53 AM
I'm liking pizza box and floppy disk.

Window is not generally thought of to be flat and square. Sicilian pizza, while flat and square...well to be honest, I would never have thought of that myself and it makes me doubt it'd be on a 12-answer poll. Post-it notes...hmm....these days, not always square so twix may not have thought of those. All the ones on my desk are rectangular. Postage stamps aren't square (close, but not square).

Not trying to knock my teammates - just trying to reason out our "best" answer :)

ZipperJJ
04-15-2007, 11:33 AM
I dunno, guys. Napkins aren't always square. The napkins at McDonalds aren't square. Cloth napkins usually aren't square.

Pizza boxes - like CDs, checkerboards, trivets, saltines and album covers are ALWAYS square.

ZipperJJ

Well that's 7 votes for pizza box and only 3 for napkin with 1 retraction.

So, if no one comes in soon making the vote against it, I say pizza box is the Blue team's answer.

Abby_Emma_Sasha
04-16-2007, 08:26 AM
Okay, I'm having a problem with some definitions here. A pizza box, to me, is not flat. Square, to be sure, but flat not so much.

Someone said a postage stamp was not square. Huh? Yes, it is. And yet it was not in the answers. A stamp is certainly flatter than a pizza box. Weird.

It doesn't really matter since it's just a game, but since I've been bitching to my husband I figure I should bring my qualms here where this all began and give him some peace. :D

A_E_S -- sorry you don't like my answers. I think it was clear (after the first round I handled) that my questions and answers are all a trifle askew; when given the choice to dump be as emcee, the majority seemed to be willing to continue to play with me running the game regardless.

On your specific questions: Most stamps are rectangular, though some are close to square and a few are square. (I have two different books of stamps in my wallet at the moment -- both are rectangular.) Overall, not, though.

Re: Pizza box -- all the answers given are three-dimensional objects, though most are under an inch, if not under a half-inch. How thick should something be before it's "not flat"? One could argue that a pizza box, though a trifle thicker than a Sicilian pizza, is an even plane, and thus "flatter" than the bumpy surface of the latter. Or not.

Again -- sorry you don't like my answers -- this is how the game is being played at the moment, though.

And WE? -- only a couple people have weighed in with an opinion, and they all seem to want to wait till I get back. So -- what do people think -- play till Thursday then take a break while I'm in Europe, or hand the game over to WE? while I'm gone?

I'll continue to play the game, since all my answers have made it to the top. :D
But, I must disagree on the pizza box. I get my pizzas from Pizza Hut. I would never buy pizza anywhere else and the boxes are definitely not under an inch. I understand people in such dire places as New York and Chicago may get their pizzas at some godforsaken homemade yokel type store, but we civilized folks know Pizza Hut rules. May some Gods have mercy on the souls who do not partake in the goodness that is Meat Lovers Pizza (from Pizza Hut).

Blue Team: ZipperJJ, Frosted Glass, Secret Volcano Lair, Sternvogel, Taber, Abby_Emma_Sasha, Delores Reborn, Avarie537, Pygmy Rugger, cmkeller, JpnDude, MadTheSwine 12 members

I think we need to do a little balancing. I am not sure how.

I like camel, but I might be thinking of my local zoo, which briefly offered camel rides when I was a kid.

Another possibility is giraffe, but I am certain that I am just grabbing that from animal crackers.

My official vote at this point is camel

I think you are allowed to ask.

If Zebra was the same as Horses, I would have posted Horses and other Equines. So for my list it is not the same.

seems to agree with you

"Each family member has an opportunity to give his/her own answers. If the answer they give does not appear on the board, repeat an answer on the board, or takes too long to think of a possible answer on the board, they earn an unwanted strike"

Yeah, I would have also.

In the original game, they had a timer (5 secs?) to think of a new answer if the contestant said an answer already on the board. So I think that since there is no time limit, a strike is in order.

I actually had a method to determine where the 11 items would rank. I will explain when this is done if you like. Besides, ranking actually only matters for determining which team gets control up front. All answers are worth one point.

They have and I am sorry about that. I missed that one player was not US/Canada. Is Straun the only non-North American? I would be happy to take feedback on the lists.

It's no biggy, it's not difficult to research the possible answers, it just becomes tricky to decide which ones an American would pick.

Small note about my lists, I am trying to use 3-5 sources to determine the answers and the rankings. For this list, once I determined the 11 items, I used Google to give each its votes, but jumped the ESB over the White House & Pentagon that gets many extra hits for being in the National news daily. The ESB was by far the highest Google hit on the list except for these two. I was surprised by how well the Space Needle did.
