Photoreading / Speed reading

I'm a pretty slow reader. I read quickly only by skim reading and skipping lots of details. While the benefit is that I can reread books and always find something new, I would enjoy being able to hold onto more details as I read. So let's hear what you guys know about it.

Is photoreading real? Anyone here have it or can you do it?

How about speed reading? I have a friend's brother who took a class on it and his reading speed increased as a result. Do I need a book? Special software? A class?

What do you guys think?

Watch TV with the captions on. Especially if it's the news where people talk very fast. That's how I learned to read as a kid. I had to read fast to keep up with the newscritters. :D

Other than that, I think there's a thread in MPSIMS about a website that purports to jack up your reading speed. Not sure if it really helps.

I dunno about being *trained* to photo-read, but I found out that my daughter could do it. She told me that if she could remember what page in the book to turn to (in her mind) she could read the words off of the page. :eek: This was when she was a high school student.
