I have been unable to get to MSN or Hotmail for 2 days now. All other sites--The Dope, for instance--I can access fine. Is something going on there, or is it here?

My main email account is at MSN, and I haven't noticed anything odd.

I've used hotmail twice this weekend, and I just checked it this monday morning, and it's fine for me.

What did you do to Microsoft?

It's me then. Firefox goes to login.live.com when I type in www.msn.com. Is there something wrong with my login? Hmmm...trying IE, I can get to msn.com but when I click the "Log In" link, it can't display the page. What is wrong with me?

OK, so I cleared my cache and now I can get to MSN.com and the login page for Hotmail, but when I log in, it says it can't display the page. Same behavior on IE and Firefox. From a different computer, I have no trouble, so it's something on this one. Any guesses what it could be? Thunderbird (my mail client) can't log in either.

I'm stumped.

What's the exact wording of the error message? Does it give an HTTP response code (e.g. 401 or 500)?

Firefox:

Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at login.live.com.

Internet Explorer:
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

No numbers. :-(

Problem solved. Norton had freaked out (or gone nuts, or something) and was blocking access to all secure sites. A reboot and manual update and everything is now working properly.

Thread closed.
