This is another topic I've inserted here because of my effort to find better work. The vocational counselor told me and another client about a dozen or so construction unions looking for people to train--as carpenters, painters, brick masons, tilers, Teamsters (yes, the Teamsters Union!) for a construction project slated to begin next year around the Ballona Wetlands between Culver City, Venice, and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). This work is expected to last for 10 to 15 years. I had read in local papers that Los Angeles City Council member Ruth Galanter was involved in local resistance to these plans, and I myself would like to know if this is going to be highly controversial stuff--I prefer to stay out of hot controversy. Can any Dopers apprise me on this?
