Recommend NYC hostels?

I'm heading to NYC for a couple of days in September, and I could use a good, cheap place to stay. Could anyone recommend a good hostel? Price is the most important factor, but I'd prefer someplace in a reasonably safe neighborhood and in a decent state of repair.

The HI hostel is supposed to be nice, and the price is right.

I've stayed at the HI, and I recommend it, with the caveat that there are BIG dorms and it can get noisy.
