They are both late 1980's...

The first one goes

"If I could paint, I'd paint a portrait of you."


The second one goes:


"In the living years..."

Second one is Mike and the Mechanics, "In the living years".

The second one is, not surprisingly, "The Living Years," by Mike + the Mechanics (the project by Mike Rutherford of Genesis and Paul Carrack of Squeeze.) Don't know about the first one.

The first one might be Dominique Eade, but that's mostly a guess based on a short google search session.

Actually, I believe the song is called
"If I Could" by a group called 1927.

And, hey, if a picture paints a thousand
words, then why can't I paint you?
