View Full Version : Fuck you, SiXSwordS

I'm Ron Burgundy?

For being a goddamn hypocrite. (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=432318) Apparently you're too much of a baby to walk into one of the four music stores in your neighborhood without your mother because some 19-year-old will be condescending towards you, yet you have no trouble being just as rude to me when I make a harmless suggestion. Maybe I missed the part in your essay about how helplessly ignorant you are about musical instruments that references a distinct distaste for the brand I mentioned, or how you only want answers in identical vapid essay form, or maybe you just suck cock. The fact is that no one with half a brain goes online and spends $1000 on a guitar because that's just plain STUPID, just like walking into a dealership with $15000 and saying 'give me a car.'

And $1000 is not mid-priced, jackass. Apparently you're better off with a name-brand instrument that's set up poorly and sounds like shit, but how the fuck will your ignorant ass be the wiser?

Could this be the first pitting based on a single word? Possibly.

Granted he was rather brusque with that word.

Was it worth the inevitable warning you'll get for that remark? I'm guessing yes.

It was rude, but I don't think it was worthy of a pitting. Pittings need lots and lots of links and quotes of obnoxious things people have said. That way we can all paw through the different things that the person has said and hopefully prove that they were even lying about stuff they've said in the past.

Actually, I think you need to be pitted for saying "fuck you" in a CS thread.

Ron, you're a moron. He wasn't rude, you made a suggestion and he turned it down. Get over it.

Oh, and learn the definition of hypocrite before you call someone one.

It was rude...
No, it was not. Just because he wasn't blowing sunshine up Ron's ass doesn't mean he was rude. Ron, on the other hand is being a complete infant about it.

Swampwolf

I don't think it was any more rude than an order to buy a guitar s/he (gender unknown) had no interest in.

And how does
Buy a Seagull
answer the questions
My question— and this may be better suited to GQ— is: How do I judge a guitar I can't see or play?
What is the equivalent to the blue book for guitars, if any?
Are there good websites for finding out how a make and model measure up against other types of guitars in general?

SiXSwordS wasn't asking what guitar to buy. But you ordered him/her to buy your guitar of choice. And then figured that since s/he doesn't want your precious Seagull that s/he is
helplessly ignorant <snip> about musical instruments that references a distinct distaste for the brand I mentioned, or how you only want answers in identical vapid essay form, or maybe you just suck cock.
(nice homophobia, btw. Dickweed)
The fact is that no one with half a brain goes online and spends $1000 on a guitar
Ignoring the possibility that maybe SiXSwordS used $1,000 as an estimate of how much s/he wanted to spend, tell me this, O great half-brained one, how much do you spend on a guitar?

No, it was not. Just because he wasn't blowing sunshine up Ron's ass doesn't mean he was rude. Ron, on the other hand is being a complete infant about it.I agree with Q.E.D. "No" wasn't rude. "Buy a Seagull" was rude. It was nonresponsive, off-putting, and pointless really. It was just a thoughtless toss-off post from someone unwilling to take the time, or unable to muster the resources, to help an OP clearly looking for specific guidance. Yes, I know I'm rambling, but still.

Why would you pit someone over this? You play? You weren't scared your first time buying an axe?

Well I guess your one bad ass MOFO!

It's some scary shit putting yourself out for all to see.

Or was it just that he didn't take your advice about the axe?

Dude, that's weak. Youv'e seen Stevie Ray Vaughns axe I'm Sure. Did it look like a 1000 dollar axe to you ? How about Eddie Van Halens? 1000 ? I'm thinking not. O.K. How about Emmet Ray. Not a lot of dough.

Jesus, dude. The "suggestion" to get a Seagull came three posts after this exchange:

A less expensive brand that seems decent is Seagull.
I have recommended Seagull guitars to others, too. I think they are great, low price guitars with good sound. But, the last time I was in a guitar store, I just happened to pluck the low E string of a ~$900 guitar; I didn't even take it down from the wall. There was bass! Real bass! I'm mean, it shook! I barely plucked it and it sounded great!

If you can't be bothered to read the thread, why should he bother to respond to your crap?

I have obviously had some time to think about this, so file these comments under Esprit de l’escalier (http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-esp1.htm) and forgive me if I am preaching to the choir.

First, I'd like to thank Swampwolf, Q.E.D and Enginerd, among others, for succinctly stating my case in my absence; I would have preferred a more vapid, essay style, but I'll take what I can get.

I should also say that I agree with he-who-knows-not-own-his-name and if his comments had appeared in the original thread they might actually have been helpful.

The analogy with buying a car has already been drawn, so let me use that. If I was to go buy a car, I would take the car to a mechanic to have it checked out. I might bring a friend who knows a lot about cars or a family member who knows a lot about salesmen to the car lot with me. There's no guarantee that I would get a good deal, but it's a heuristic approach and I'd have a better chance of making a good decision than if I went alone.

When I started the guitar thread, I had a similar motivation. Maybe some Doper makes their living buying and selling musical instruments online and spends their free time on the boards.

I was hoping I would get responses like picker's and Athena's. I did not expect responses like Omegaman's, but I have to agree with him.

I've let myself be put off music stores by the scenes where I go in and ask for a certain set of strings and some cross-eyed, mulleted alcoholic with yellow fingernails and a Newport hanging out of his mouth says: "You don't want those heavy strings. You want these extra slinky strings. Jes' like Jim Page." Er, no, I want the strings I asked for but, now that you mention it, they are cheaper online, so, buh-bye now."

So, I have taken he-who-knows-not-his-own-name's condemnation to heart, there's just one thing.

It's ironic that the OP belittles and curses me by wishing that I should find myself walking out of a guitar store with a beautiful brand name logo carrying a third rate guitar and leaving behind a sniggering, pimply salesboy chuckling to his co-workers that he finally unloaded that warped two-by-four that had been disgracing their wall for the past two and a half years.

What inspired the OP?

The fact that I snubbed him when he suggested that I buy, sight unseen, a guitar based on no more information than the brand name....

Wonderwall6129
08-14-2007, 04:53 PM
You're pitting him because he said "no"? If he doesn't share your taste in instruments, IMHO that's an awfully strange reason to pit him. :dubious:
