The major microwave buttery popcorn brands are going to be "reformulated within a year" because of recent news reports about diacetyl additive (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20620395/)
I'm not one to panic, but at the same time I eat so little of the stuff, and hate the butter varieties, that I'm willing to wait for the new versions.
I think I'll just use the stove top kind for a year.
Do you think your own popcorn habits will change?

No.

Mine won't, as I prefer "kettle corn" varieties of microwaved popcorn to the buttery ones.
Actually, I'm waiting for someone to come out with popcorn flavored with bacon salt.

No. We only have it about once a month.
Besides, it'd be silly for me to keep smoking and give up microwave popcorn. :)

Maybe they need to make a "smoky kettle" variety. Then you could use it to wean off the sticks ;)

For the most part, this is already being discussed over here: How much microwave popcorn do you eat? (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=435415)

I almost never eat microwave popcorn because of the fat and calories, but I do eat a lot of popcorn.
I make it with a hot air popper then spray it with "Pam" and salt it. The Pam makes the salt stick and is allegedly low or no calories.
I don't remember where I first heard of this, well, "recipe", but it works for me.

My wife reacted to the news by pitching our 5-6 packets of microwave popcorn in the trash. If she had not said anything it would probably have been months before I noticed.
