Is Indian Corn good for anything?

Ok, it's Fall, and in all the supermarkets are bundles of "Indian Corn". Obviously the ears we see there are dried, but if they were fresh, would they taste good to eat? Why have I never seen fresh Indian Corn for sale?

Has anyone ever tried the stuff? How did it taste?

Large quantities of it were exported to Ireland during the Potato Famine as relief supplies (I spelled the "P-word" right, no Dan Quayles here :) ). It is perfectly edible, but not very tasty.

Indian Corn is very useful for feeding to animals. Some people will eat it, but some people eat dorm food. The yellow and white corn you buy (or pick if you are lucky) fresh has been artificially selected for sweetness.

It also pops up fairly well, and of course, it makes for nice decorations.

We get it at the local farmer's market every year and make several specialities, expecially corn chowder and corn relish. It tastes just like regular corn. Comes in different types, some mostly blue and some mostly red, etc.
You can get seeds from any major catalog.

The only Indian Corn I will eat is man-made. Brach's Indian Corn. Its like Candy Corn with chocolate!! Only avalable this time of year, I'll eat a 12oz bag a day.MTS

Well I believe I've seen blue corn chips. Guess they used blue corn.It had to genetically come from something.
