View Full Version : Forbidden Thread: Party III (No Hosts!)

This here's the control thread for the Party III game. Remember to leave plenty of header space before your posts so Hosts searching your recent posts won't accidently see the mysteries revealed within.

Just in case any future Party MCs might have any question about the returns on running one of these: there's only been one post, no guesses, and I'm already cackling like a little schoolgirl watching the quirks come to life.

You're an evil man, fache.... and terifically distrusting of your fellow man. It took everything I had not to peek into the forbidden thread in the last game.

I hope I haven't made these quirks too easy. All of them feel much more obvious in this one than in the last... but then again, in this game, I know all of them, and in the last game I was charged with finding them.

OneCent's quirk is going to be fairly difficult to get, though. I'm glad you're being fairly active with it, as it would be impossible otherwise. I had a friend who wrote a 30 page essay for a philosophy class who did it using your quirk. Weird kid.

Diomedes, I know that mine is going to be brutally hard for them to guess. It's why I'm posting so much...hopefully they spot the pattern. It's amazing how hard it is to do it, though; I have to go back and proofread all my posts at least twice. :smack:

That is my ambition as well. This'll keep an unsuspecting host from accidently seeing me post here then inaccurately assuming pariculars on my oddity. Though, please note that this will be untrue of my an isolated post from Conspiracy, or some distinct topics altogether.

Note my previous post is also containing my oddity.

The only real paraphrase I've done has been to replace "actors" with "actor" because it was the only line I could find to answer "what do you do for a living". The rest are crops (mostly removing a character name).

phillycheesesteak
ComeToTheDarkSideWeHaveCookies

I think that's all of them except for the post about Batman villains (I know I've seen a Harley Quinn. Not so sure about Poison Ivy or Joker)
And the most recent one. Taste of Chocolate? Merlot? Wine Guy? Never seen 'em. Then again, I know about half of those names have since been banned or otherwise have left long before I came around (I started lurking in January of '04). Some more of these names might be before my time.

I might have also missed some in the post referring to philly. Chocolate Cake? Maple syrup?

It ends next Wednesday at noon, my time. A week might be an even better time frame for this, but I wanted to make sure we had a full weekend for people in which to play: there's definitely a weekday crowd and a weekend crowd on the Dope, I've noticed. Probably the division of people who get to play around on computers at work and those who make an honest living.

And I jsut gave them an even bigger one. I didn't realize your wuirk would be this difficult to both post and guess, but it makes sense. Usually, one would think that the more difficult it is to compose a post, the easier it would be to guess (based on the obvious variances from normal speech).

Okay, I'm going to be needing help now. I can handle my quirk just fine, but bbs2k is going to be asking me questions about military service, about which I know precisely dick. I only answered in the affirmative because it suits my character, and do they ever need the help if they're going to have a chance. My answers need to be credible.

He's asking if I was close to combat. Can I just say "No, I was stationed in Germany" or somesuch? Can someone make up a short military background for me? Just a few years of service in the mid-nineties, like I said in the thread.

I don't think that you really need to be credible; it's understood that the guests in this game are completely making things up so that their posts fit their quirk.

You're focussing a lot on justasking bbs2k questions, which while is in character, obviously isn't getting the point across to the hosts. I don't think they've even picked up on thee fact that all your questions have gone to him.
I liked your favorite movie, that was a nice, sly hint there. :)

I'd put this under spoiler space but it doesn't have anything to do with in-game stuff.
But just wanted to say sorry for not hosting this one, thank you to Dio so much for hosting it, and that I might possibly host Party IV and have that one be (at least for myself) my retiring game of it (and henceforth have others host if they want). Because I already have a great idea for it.

I'll call it "Party IV: The free-for-all." And the players who want to play will PM me with their own quirk that they think up and want to display. :) Just provided it's not too hard of one.

What you all think?

(by the way, this game (III) is really fun)

Yeah, Diomedes, but it's hard to get it across any other way without saying it outright, something my character definitely wouldn't do. In fact, he'd probably have a sackful of lies ready for any personal question.

I'm rather amused that they haven't picked up on my word choice, like me saying "gala" or "fiesta"... it seemed like such an enormous clue.

True dat. It's the host's duty to try to out more information about you. I think background info about your character not related specifically to his current occupation won't count as going toward your quirk, though.

Not to mention th' strange habit you have of carving up words with extraneous apostrophes.

Whoa... each word used is mostly legitimate, having seen them no less than once before. I'd felt temptation to circumvent particular "cheats" when possible, particularly things like "b'cause" or "tempt'd" when I'm able to engage an online dictionary of synonyms. :D

Don't get me wrong. I thought it was a fun quirk when I first envisioned it. There's no way I could express as much information and write halfway as intricate and extended quotes as you have so far.

Oh, I'm having lots of pleasure with it. I'm particularly fond of challenges to stay away from specific hard to circumvent verbages, even if I'd bent some language guidelines from time to time.

Dunno how much longer I can keep this up without either repeating or starting to use things I've never heard of, which I don't think is really sporting.

I've used square, but thanks for reminding me about line. The tricky bit with the rest is slipping them in in different contexts.

I'm really surprised nobody's gotten mine yet. I think they're just being nice and letting me stay in since I was late. :p

Spoiler space here

Although I don't really need it

Because I'm not going to say anything specific

But just in case: Party III Hosts! Do not read! Go away! Scram!

This spoiler space is going to contain more information than the actual message...

There, that should be enough, I think.

Well, okay, maybe it's not as easy as I thought. They're not even responding to my responses any more.

Maybe I should just stand in the middle of the room and shout people's names?

I approve of the boobies. I really can't believe they haven't gotten you yet. It's not like there isn't a fairly obvious connection between the Dopers you've named. Perhaps they think there's something else, and the Doper names are just camouflage?

Ease of Guest Quirks left, in descending order, IMHO:

Does featherlou's have something to do with words of multiple syllables? She's using a lot of monosyllabic words.

Hers is content based, not word based. (if that distinction makes sense)

That was fun, but let me tell you, also exhausting.

I would play again, but only with the understanding that I would not be a host. Literally about 90% of the time I spent at this message board for over the past week has been spent reading the party thread and trying to dissect everyone's quirk.

Now that we're done I eally have a lot of catching up to do as far as reading the Dope. I have literally jumped into a couple of threads just for the purpose of subscribing so I didn't miss them.

Bye guys!
