Something I've been thinking about while sorting through random porn earlier today....there are a crazy number of people (guys too, but particularly women) who have posed naked for either some kind of professional porn site or an amateurish show yourself naked site/group, for their significant other (photos which often, either intentionally or through a mishap, end up online), or have been photographed for another format (art book, old fashioned magazines, and even voyeurism) which was later digitized. There are so many mediums that it's probably impossible to get a scientific number, but just how many (in a good estimate) individual people have at least one naked photo somewhere online?

I do, but I was 17 when I took them so anyone who still has them on their computer is guilty of possesing child pornography. :o

Just so you're clear on it. A photo of a naked child is not necessarily pornography.

Apparently, not Carmen Diaz (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=441942).

I started this thread trying to figure out a serious estimate. I'm mainly wondering if it's above or below the 1 million mark. With 8 billion people on this planet, and 300 million in the United States, that number actually isn't that high (1 in 300, basically), although 1 million still is a large amount of people.
I also wonder if there's somebody out there who has seen all 1 million people!

This question is going to be impossible to answer. It's like asking, "how many people ate a hot dog today?" Just no way to tell.

6,602,224,175 people on Earth (July 2007 est.) according to

I've seen porn of two people I've known personally. Both were ladies.

I don't know. But it amazes me that with as many amateur nudies as I've seen on the internet, at least 2/3 of them are always new. Or at least aren't familiar.
Yes, I'm single, why do you ask? ;)
as you might imagine, this is a serious question for us (producing an adult website with virtually never-before-seen amateur models). How do you work out how many people turn 18 each year, that are female, height-weight proportionate, attractive, and keen to get naked on the internet...

It's much worse than that. If you had the resources there would be industry figures for hot dog production and you could work this out to a fair degree of accuracy.
Something as unofficial, and indeed as positively clandestine, as the activity described in the OP is just outside any source of data.

What, does Cameron Diaz have a sister named Carmen?

This question is going to be impossible to answer. It's like asking, "how many people ate a hot dog today?" Just no way to tell. The National Hot Dog & Sausage Council has taken a stab at this.
It calculates that Americans consume circa 20 billion hot dogs each year. This comes out at nearly 55 million per day, on average. Yesterday's figures are probably higher than average, it being a Sunday with much sports interest including the fourth game of a World Series.
If anyone knows the average number of hot dogs eaten by a consumer per meal or snack (I'm assuming some people eat more than one) then we can arrive at a fair estimate for the number of people who ate a hot dog yesterday.

Its possible to get some kind of rough idea. Company's that make hot dogs have records of how many records they sell, im sure its possible to work out how many hold dogs are sold in which areas and assuming that a certain % of hot dogs sold per year that are sold are eater you could work out an average.

Actually, I think the better version of the OP’s questions should be, “How many Dopers have naked photos online? And can we see them?” :D

Some computer-savvy folks tell us that everything that has ever been on the internet is still out there somewhere. They scoff at us for not knowing how to find it. At this minute, they say, there are 523 bored college students looking at that picture of you and your long-ago ex-boyfriend wearing only swim fins, stalks of celery, and Batman utility belts. What, you thought that was taken down? Ha! I laugh on your swim fins!

Guys, guys, guys....my hotdog analogy was a pretty poor one and written as tongue in cheek. Not to mention, no matter how many people there are in the world or hotdogs that are sold, some people could keep them frozen for weeks and taken them out and eaten them yesterday. ;) That could change the figures a little. lol

I know. I wasn't just naked I was also doing something else that most definitely qualifies the pictures as porn.

not to hijack my own OP, but there IS a difference between naked photos and porn. Infact, it's probably a lot easier to calculate the amount of porn that exists in the world, since aside from amateur porn made by couples, most of it is made for profit by actual companies. Naked photos exist for a variety of reasons. There's the infamous Yale University naked posture photos that leaked out (not gonna link anywhere, but google it) against the will of the people they were taken of, so there's 97 people right there. There are photos taken, both in the open, and in secret, of people at nude beaches. Chances are if you've been to one (and I have), there was a photo taken of you and some random college kid is jacking off to it right now. And I won't even go into those toilet cam sites, some of which might actually have unsuspecting people who probably never knew they were being featured.
I guess this is the one unanswerable question? Like most things (like how many hot dogs are eaten a day), a possibly valid estimate could be taken either by statistics, or a sample data. I'm not gonna be the one to ask how many dopers reading this have a naked photo online somewhere (the answer for me is yes, just for the record, and no, I don't have a link handy) though.

Well, it's not such a stretch, from hot dogs to wienies.
