Players come, players go. It's been a loongggg time since we had two tables running. *sniff* Those were the good ol' days.

Linky to 4th Quarter 2007 (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=438261&highlight=poker) which amazingly has links to previous quarters.

Get your stuff together and show up, people! No more of this "I have to study" "I have a DATE" "The Moon is in the house of Neptune with a rising aura of Uranus therefore I cannot play" crap.

Games are Thursday evenings, 9pm Central time. I believe there are a few sites that work together - the microgaming sites - but most of us are at Crazy Poker. We also love to verbally abuse each other (gives stinkeye to certain people who shall remain unnamed) through AIM.

Join Us!

Are they every Thursday? I can't seem to find my way into a local live game, I've been playing online, but something more consistent would be fun. My only problem is I probably couldn't play every Thursday.

Ummmmmmm... anybody got a problem with me?

Actually, we didn't have any "onlookers yawning in excitement". They mostly went to bed when we went heads up. :D :(Even better, we actually put people to sleep with our playing!

I have to say, you're a hard son-of-a-gun to kill. It must be fascinating for the great players to watch their games on TV after the fact, and see what cards the other players had and if they made the right reads. Not many hands went to the showdown when we were heads-up. There were times I slow played and was just aching for you to bet. I probably folded to some bluffs. It would be interesting to reconstruct it afterwards, see if I'm any good at this game or just got lucky last night.

Join in Tof. You don't have to show up every week. If you're on one of the sites on our network, look for a private tournament called "SDMB weekly", or something like that. Password available on request. (I don't know if I should give it out, I still feel like a newcomer to the game.)

Stuff like that....Any poker room in the Microgaming network (http://www.microgaming.com/pokerclients.php) should work. Most of us are on Crazy Poker. There are 12 or so states that are not accepted, so if you live in one of those, you might have to borrow an address from a friend.

Games are at 10 pm Eastern every Thursday (although usually not Thanksgiving night). In the main lobby, click on Private - we should be listed. I have created next week's game, so you have plenty of time to find it and sign up. Password has been "rudengrim" (without the quotes), and we have never been crashed (knock on wood). The ridiculously high buyin is $.09 + $.01.

Funding is problematic. I railed a few games and asked - I was told that Moneygram or Western Union would work, or that one could sign up through Doyle's Room (which is a MG room). I can't verify any of this. We used to be able to pick up a few dimes in the freerolls, but they changed it so you have to play raked hands to qualify.

We set up an AIM chat room for the express purpose of hurling insults, taunting, howling in outrage, gloating, etc. If you have an AIM or compatible account, we need to know your user name. If it is not similar to your SDMB name, you might consider creating a new account that is similar just for use in the games.

That should just about cover it.

Well, you need to play at least 3 games in a quarter in order to be in the rankings. The quarterly winner gets a FANTASTIC prize, but we can't say what it is, since it's so special.

One ex-player did let it slip. Suffice it to say he no longer can play, what with the injuries (Yeti can be such a beast!)

Actually, I was the one wondering about the standings.

I just played a live game with some co-workers. We had one guy here from India who had never played poker before. So we had a few pretend hands to show him how it worked, and wrote the order of hands from best to worst.

He hit everything. In 90 minutes, he folded twice and lost one showdown. I lost to a runner-runner flush. I had to re-buy just because I didn't want to leave so early. So did everyone else. Finally I had K-5 in the small blind and raised. The flop was 5-5-6. I bet half my stack and he called. Went all-in after the turn. He called and showed 5-6. I've never seen anybody get cards like he did.

I've played poker in-person twice, about 3 hours total, and I've never won a hand.

I was going to give it a try. Went to Crazy Poker, downloaded their software and installed it after scanning with AVG antivirus and Spy Sweeper. Is it the same at all those microgaming sites?

I am a fairly obsessive player and have been around for a long time. I would love to join you all next week, but Micro is about the only network I have never been on. Does Micro allow player to player transfers? I am a prolific poster on 2+2 so the way we usually get money on a site is to swap from another site. So I give someone some Pokerstars money and they transfer on Micro. Is there any reason that wouldn't work?

We don't currently know any way for USA players to get money into the network.*

Obviously, we need someone from outside of the states to play so we can ship them money to fund games.

*One guy suggested that we sign up through Doyle's Room (which, as a MG site, would show our games. I have no idea if Doyle's Room can accept deposits from USA players.)

My employees organized a bus trip to Laughlin last Saturday, and begged me to come since they know and love me as the M'Fr that you know me as well. Four hours to go 210 miles really sucks, but coming back up $450 didn't........but most notably I saved myself from losing all of it on just two laydowns on $1-$2 NL.

For both hands, I was playing against the same guy; I made the right decision to laydown my KQo with the board showing Q-T-7-6-2 rainbow. There was about $200 in the pot and he went all-in for $190. I did lose about $90 on that hand, but having top pair kept me in the hand although he was leading the betting and I was calling. Probably could have saved $50 and folded after the turn because I did was thinking he was holding at best AQ or pretending like he was.....turned out it was better than that....2 pair.....QTs.

The second hand could have been much deadlier. I was dealt pocket Jacks and I bet $25. He then goes all-in for $292 which I would have covered. About 10 hands earlier, he did the same exacting thing, (except he had only $90 at that time) but he was holding pocket deuces. Knowing that made me teeter back and forth on whether to call him or fold......for about 2 whole minutes. Everyone else was cool with me taking that much time, because they only had the same info on this guy as I did.....going all in on 22. I figured he had to have a pocket pair or AK suited, and with that suspicion that pocket Jacks usually gets hammered around here among us Dopers, I folded. Turned out he did have pocket Aces. Saved another $267 for a total of $457.

I will confess right now by saying I won $300 of it on 3 Card Poker. I like that game and it seems that game likes me. Another $70 on Wheel of Fortune dollar slots (I did if for an employee who didn't go and wanted to pool with me). So the other $80 was slowly won from poker. It also included a $60 loss from a hold'em tournament where I went all-in with pocket Queens and got called on by a guy holding A8o and got rivered. M'Fr. I really wish I had spent more time in the tournament (I lasted only and hour, and was hobbled early when my trip 9s got rivered by a straight....double M'Fr!), but I really can't complain.

Congrats, Yeti.

I had an interesting hand in a sit-and-go this past weekend. I limped in with 10-9. Three callers. The flop was 10-9-9. In an effort to expand my strategic repertoire, I checked. One bet, two folds, and I call. The turn was a 7; check, bet, call. The river was another 10. Check, bet, raise. Can't remember if he called or not. I did a few slow plays that worked out very well for me (gotta have the cards, first). Won the tournament.

But has anyone seen that before; trip-nines, and I could only use two of them because of higher trips? Strange way to make a full house.

We still haven't decided on a thread title.

Seeing as Root won the Q, maybe something bot like?

If I Only Had A Heart
Squeaky No More
Root'in Tootin Poker

I got nothin'.

The one theme I remember and thought had traction was something along the lines of "No Change". First out of my head is "America Wants Change: Not SDMB Poker 2nd Q 2008".

Lemme see if I have the transcript....

(Dang, AIM can be confusing at times re: options.)

Look. I know some of you people are creative and clever. It's time to suck it up and make a meaningful contribution. (The late GO used to be so good at thread starters.)

It looks like the clock kicked over, so I created "SDMB Weekly DST", which I hope will show up at the right time.
