View Full Version : Family Feud X
Interrobang!?
01-04-2008, 12:07 AM
Hostile Dialect has been busy with his newfangled (and fun) Trivial Feud threads, so I asked if I could do a round of classic Family Feud. He agreed -- and he's gonna let me use his patented time-saving tabulation method. Yay!
Rules, in case you are new are this: DON'T READ THE THREAD BEFORE YOU POST!
Post your responses to the questions and when there have been 50 responses, I will double the value of the response to each question (to come up with the Survey Says).
You want to post what you think the most popular answer will be. If all 50 respondents have the same answer as you, you will get 100 points like the game show. After 50 responses have been posted (including my own, since I can't keep from playing this myself), I will tabulate the results, declare the winner, and post the scoreboard. There are ten questions and 500 possible points; Purgatory Creek, the defending champion, won with 412 points. Results of the last game are here (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=9289151&postcount=67).
Format for your answers: You don't need to repeat the questions. Your answers, one to a line, would be ideal.
Good luck!

Apparently I need to do some real work this afternoon, so scoring will wait -- but I should be able to accommodate everyone who contributed, even beyond 50.
Thanks for playing!OK, that was like eight hours ago. Don't leave me hangin', man!

No prob. For ease in scoring, you might want to consider just taking the first 50, scoring those at 2 points each, and then scoring any additional entries against that list.

Why does it have to be two points to fifty responses? Is it really that critical that the answers from contestants #51 and #52 don't get two points?

Considering you can get anywhere you want to go at any time without a car, yes. That would be considered far above and beyond "decent public transportation" in most of the US, especially Southern California.

I'm just a little amused that two people said Seattle for that one.
I'd be happy to run another of these, by the way, but probably not for a few days. Two things I'd consider: no points for "pass," and letting the contest run for 100 responses/48 hours. Thoughts?

Thoughts?(Assuming you run one again after MaxTheVool's, which I will look forward to) I think there should not be any points for a pass, just as an unanswered "Pass" would get zero on the show. I don't really have any opinion about the length of time or number of responses. I mean, I suppose the more responses you take in, the more interesting the answers may be, so that's a plus. Hopefully you can get that many folks to respond in two days' time!

FTR, my idea in counting "pass" for points in Trivial Feud was that the questions there are supposed to be challenging in a different way, and that when answering any given question you have to take into account just how many MPSIMSites will actually give an answer; I figured I might as well reward people for doing it right. I actually agree with "pass" not being worth anything in the lighter, fluffier Family Feud threads--though I'm not sure I get the point of passing then; all of the Family Feud-type questions have at least one easy answer, so why not throw that one out there and hope for the best?
Just my two cents.
