So, a new year, a new trivia thread!

The rundown, in case you've been wanting to join us and haven't yet: a group of Seattle-area Dopers meet to play pub trivia, usually on Tuesday nights at The Old Pequliar in Ballard, where Interrobang?! hosts once a month or so. Sometimes, we mix things up and go elsewhere on other nights, just to keep us on our toes.

Anyway, who's in for tonight? I'll be there, barring baby meltdowns.

One very sleepy man currently without identity will be there, barring baby meltdowns. Because, you know, sometimes you just have to stop an mock.

08's my year, guys!
Just waiting untill february.
See y'all then!

Interrobang!?

Yeah, I'll be there -- bring your A game, it's gonna be a doozy.

I'll be there. After two weeks without a quiz, my brain is buzzing with incorrect guesses to answer obscure questions.

I am in New Jersey.

No, seriously. I'm in New Jersey.

Anyway, have fun.

Buzztime Trivia? My friends and I play the 2nd Tuesday of every month. But on Lawn Guylandt, significantly east of Seattle. :D

Interrobang!?

Offhand, I don't know where the local Buzztime venues are, but it'd be an interesting thing to try.

I've got my cold-weather waiting-for-the-bus clothes all ready, so I'm willing to brave the wacky Seattle ice-drivers and whatnot tonight. So I'm going to trivia, I hope. Who else?

stargazer
01-15-2008, 12:14 PM
Well, my husband is working the closing shift tonight, so I might have to stay home & watch the baby -- y'all can do the knitting trivia round without me, right?

inkysplotchy
01-15-2008, 12:14 PM
I'm in. I'm taking the long bus times as an opportunity to catch up on all my podcasts. Plus, Stargazer has to be there, since the round is knitting.

Oh, and I will be wearing my Packer gear, in honor of, well, the Packers.

Interrobang!?
01-15-2008, 12:17 PM
I'll be there.

Interrobang!?
01-15-2008, 01:16 PM
Just a reminder: if stargazer is not there, she's going to be baking a lot of cupcakes for the next 11 months.

I just got back from the airport. I could leave my suitcases on the dining room floor and rush out, but I think I just need to lie down for a while.

01-22-2008, 01:26 PM
In honor of Dr Martin Luther King Jr, we should play trivia. Whoe else is in?

If you aren't in, just call yourself Jim Crow.

Interrobang!?
01-22-2008, 01:48 PM
I'm up for it. It's a mystery first-time host tonight at the OP. Could be interesting!

Cervaise
01-22-2008, 02:05 PM
Yes it could. Shall we bring a cribbage board just in case? Or a blowgun?

stargazer
01-22-2008, 02:24 PM
I'm out tonight -- the husband is working and the baby and I are both sick, so it's a triple-whammy of staying-home-itis.

I hope to be back in the thick of things next week!

01-29-2008, 03:49 PM
Sounds fab. I'll probably be there.

Interrobang!?
01-29-2008, 04:40 PM
I'll be there. It's another new host, but they're a good team and I suspect they'll be fine.

stargazer
01-29-2008, 04:58 PM
The hubs is working, so I'll only be there if I can find a babysitter. I don't think the odds are great, so don't expect me. :(

01-29-2008, 05:43 PM
I'm in, but I may be late-ish. Is anyone going to be there early to secure a table?

Saltire
01-29-2008, 05:53 PM
I'll definitely be there before 7, but no promises how long before. If all goes swimmingly, I could be there before happy hour ends.

Cervaise
02-05-2008, 12:19 PM
Yo peeps, what's the plan?

Interrobang!?
02-05-2008, 01:04 PM
My plan: I'll ask you 80 questions. You do what you can to answer them without throwing coasters at me.

stargazer
02-05-2008, 02:18 PM
Aw, but throwing coasters is half the fun!

I'll be there anyway.

Interrobang!?
02-05-2008, 03:07 PM
Note the "at me" part. Other teams are fair game.

inkysplotchy
02-05-2008, 03:24 PM
I'll be there.

Saltire
02-05-2008, 03:46 PM
I'll be there, as far as I know. We're in the last week before the latest big show, so my bosses might co-opt my time, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards right now. Anyway, if I don't appear, don't assume I've had an incident with Metro.

I had an idea about an ongoing gimmick for team names--quotations. We could go familiar, with Simpsons or Monty Python, or we could try to always be pithy and obscure, leaving everyone in the room to wonder what it's from. The trick would be finding good ones that were short enough. Anyway, it's just a possibility for us to think about.

Cervaise
02-05-2008, 04:23 PM
I think our team name should be "They Couldn't Hit An Elephant From."

stargazer
02-05-2008, 05:17 PM
I think we should be "Coaster Throwers." And that we should follow up on our team name, but only with teams/hosts we know. ;)

Interrobang!?

Somehow it seems unwise to antagonize the person who's not only tracking your score but deciding how many points you get in the first place.

stargazer
02-12-2008, 01:13 PM
So, who's in for tonight? I'll probably be there, but Little J had his 6-month (!!!) checkup today, which included shots, so he may be grumpy enough that it's not fair to leave Dad alone with him.

Interrobang!?

If anyone is still checking this -- I won't be there after all. Mr. Gazer has come down with a tummy bug and therefore can't parent solo. And my grandmother passed away this evening, so I'm not really in a social mood.

I hope you win, though!

Saltire
02-20-2008, 12:28 PM
That's good to hear, Aioua. We need someone young who's listening to that crap the kids play too loud. They keep asking age-discriminating questions about it.

For those who weren't with us, the three members of Femur took second place. Since we were Skull a couple of weeks ago, we may be forming a theme.

Mr. gazer apparently had been injured practicing his parenting technique, so we were without stargazer. But the family dropped by to tell us that, so we all got to admire muscular baby gazer, who had laid the smackdown upon his dad. We were careful not to incur the young brawler's wrath.

Aioua

Saltire
02-26-2008, 12:47 PM
Who's in? It looks like we'll be auditioning a new member, so it should be interesting.

Aouia, we usually try to get a table near the stage on the east side of the room. I don't have a Straight Dope book handy to display, but I should be the only person with a small flashlight and a red pen on the table in front of me.

Aioua
02-26-2008, 01:08 PM
Cool. When do you guys usually get started/get out? Buses, and all that.

stargazer
02-26-2008, 02:03 PM

I plan on getting there before 7, though how much before is hard to say. If my day's going fast, I could be there before 6.

The pub very strongly encourages the triviators to be done before 10. Most of them manage it, but not by much.

Right. The quiz I'm hosting tonight is a private event at the OP -- wedding reception. It's pretty interesting writing rounds about the bride and groom's sexual histories.

Both those rounds will be taken from his own personal experiences with the bride and groom. I predict a fight of Wedding Singer type proportions with someone getting strangled with a microphone wire.

Which I would never want to miss! So I'm in for tonight! I say we crash!

Also, isn't next week being hosted by someone we haven't previously enjoyed? Should we start making alternate plans? Frex, we haven't done Monday Kate's in forever. Be nice to move off a Tuesday and make it possible for some of our occasional attendees to join us.

Interrobang!?

I'm in.

And yes, next week is a bye week for us at the OP, given the host. (I suspect I'll be in the awkward position of breaking it to him tonight that I won't be there next week, because he'll probably be asking for advice.)

stargazer mentioned doing Mulleady's again, which would be good -- don't we have a gift card there? I'd also be pro Kate's or Irish Emigrant, all on Monday. Or we could do Thursday and give the All Star Pop Culture quiz at Jillian's a whirl, though I realize pop culture is not necessarily our strong suit (at least in some areas).

stargazer
04-08-2008, 12:40 PM
I'm in tonight.

As for next week, we do indeed have a gift card for Mulleady's -- I think it's for $40. That's my vote, partially because it's so insanely convenient for me, and partially because they have really good food, in addition to a fun quiz.

Last time, I was at Mulleady's really early, having learned from experience at G&D and OP that if you don't have a table by 6pm you're probably SOL. It was probably 7pm before anybody else showed up.

Ah well, it was quiet and I got a lot of reading done. :)

So I'll be there around 7.

I don't have rehearsal tomorrow (Tuesday), so I could do something, but I do on Wednesday, so I couldn't. Thursday's open at the moment, also.

Please don't give my availability too much weight. :)
