Well, it (http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a4_178.html) was only an aside in the answer to the blowing on coffee/hands answer oil is one of the few types of vegetable oil that is made from the flesh of the plant, as opposed to the seed. They'd probably make avocado oil from the flesh, too, if there were any market for avocado oil, which there isn't. but I feel compelled to point out that there is, in fact, a sizeable market (http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&rlz=1T4RNWN_enUS240US241&q=avocado+oil&um=1&ie=UTF-8). I saw a bottle of Jaime Oliver Avocado Oil (http://www.shop.com/Olivado_Extra_Virgin_Avocado_Oil-29150028-38230895-p!.shtml?sourceid=298) oil in Albertsons a couple weeks ago & made a mental note to but it on my next OT payday (it ain't cheap!). So sorry, Cecil, but it looks like this was not one of your best efforts overall. But hey, ignorance fought and all that.........;)

Q: What do Jamie Oliver and avocado oil have in common?
A: Both were considerably less well known in 1994 than they are today. :)

I'd give Cecil a pass on that one, considering the date.

Ah, my bad. I didn't note the date of the reply. I only saw it at the head of the page.
So, major pass to Cecil, minor slap with an overripe avocado to me.

Here is a link to a very brief reference on avacado oil. It appears that there was a limited market for avacado oil as far back as 1971. Given Unca Cece's propensity for hyperbole, I think that's pretty much what he was saying. :)
