Wow...I am stunned, nonplused, taken severely aback.

I answered an ordinary local ad on Craigslist for a housekeeping job. I've done it before, lots of times.

I received the response today, all in bold type:

"Thanks for your email and i am glad for keeping me updated in regards to the general labor job and more so for accepting the offer and its okay by me.I have to let you know that i just bought this new house and it cost me a fortune and i want the house to be well taken care of and thats why i want your services and i want a good and perfect service.
I will offer you $700 a week and you will make yourself available 3times in a week for 3hours each day for general house cleaning in which i will update you asap prior my arrival date .
I also have to let you know that payment for the first week payment $700 will be made out to you up front so you can know i am serious and i will like you to get back to me with your below details for the payment deliver.

Full Name ....
Full Address ...
Home/Cell phone...

The total amount you will receive should be $2500 from my accountant in form of either certified check or money orders drawn in your name, and all you have to do as soon as you get the payment.Deduct your first up front payment $700 and you will have to get the remaining funds wired via western union or money gram to my shipper that will be shipping my things to the new house...I will like to hear from you soon if you are okay with this job."

Do people actually fall for this shit? And why, why don't these scammers catch on and hire someone to write the letter in proper english?

Well, it's not actually a phishing scam, it's more of a Spanish Prisoner scam.
And yes, people fall for it.

And why, why don't these scammers catch on and hire someone to write the letter in proper english?

Because the illusion that they're uneducated and stupid is part of what makes people fall for it.
