Yesterday I was trying to remember the name of a piece of classical music. (Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A major, op. 92-2, Allegretto, if you want to know.) I wondered if there was an 'Internet music identifier' site where you could enter notes and pauses, play them back to see if you have the tune right, and then have it search a database to see what matches.
Does anything like that exist?

I don't know how well it works for classical music but there is:

It didn't find it the first time I tapped it (I used more 'notes' than just the basic melody), so I tried the 5th Symphony. It found it, so I tried the 7th again. It found that one too.
It would be nice if one could actually enter the notes though.

You'll love this site -- it has exactly what your looking for, and more. Keyboard to enter notes, contour search, etc. And a vast database of music (both pop and classical).
Good luck!

Good site! (Didn't find the 7th though.)
