My friend want to design and sell maternity tops. She is name shopping. She likes a name that has a hard "K" sound, and maybe an short "a", and an "o", short or long. She likes short sounds like "cola" and "kona". None of these suggestions are required. Any ideas?

What about kodomo? It means "child" in Japanese.

Sounds too much like Komodo, I think

Well, for maternity wear, I'm thinking maybe a womans name. How about Cora?

Koala? In addition to the sounds that your friend likes, it also has the marsupial "something in the pouch" joke to it. She could also use Koala Ts for tshirts which also plays off "quality".

Also Japanese (and I'm sure someone will correct me if I have this wrong):

Oyako, meaing "mother and child" or "chicken and egg"

or "kobun," meaning "child" or "follower" (which I like the sound of, but which has unfortunate Yakuza connotations)

I seem to recall drinking something called Koala Tea as a kid. It was good.

Now whenever I want to say something lacks quality, I always think of the Dilbert where the company has printed mugs (perhaps?) to represent the quality of the company. On the mugs however, they forgot to print the q, so the company stands for "uality." So in my mind, anything that lacks quality is uality.

Man, must be a sign of my age when I start rambling about things unrelated to the thread and the "when I was a kid" stories.

How about an 'ona' sound with no 'K'?

Nona (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nona_%28mythology%29) was the Roman goddess of pregnancy. She was also one of the Fates in some versions, the one who spun the wool from which the threads of life were measured (a natural fit- pregnancy/raw material to wool/life). The name of course is related to nine as in months).

She's one of the three babes (http://www.timelessmyths.com/classical/gallery/lararium.jpg) on this lararium (household shrine), though I'm not sure which. (I know the snake represents fertility.

ETA: Ooh ooh ooh... Her Greek counterpart, also the patroness of pregnancy, is Clotho (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clotho), which is also spelled Klotho, which has the added "clothing" pun. Pics (http://images.google.com/images?q=clotho&sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGGL,GGGL:2006-38,GGGL:en&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi)

(I tried finding a better image, but trust me: entering Nona and hitting search in Google images is NOT work safe.)

In Swahili, malaika can mean baby, small child, angel or a flock of birds.

Coli (which has a hard k sound if not the letter) means "worshipful" or "to cultivate", both appropriate for a pregnancy. The online business could be Ecoli.

In a weird connection, a friend of mine who had twins a couple of years ago had a recurring nightmare while pregnant in which she gave birth to a flock of birds.

There's also "ii ko" (pronounced like ee - ko), which means "good kid"

Also "akachan", which means baby.
