Her campaign has brought one positvie aspect to the 2008 Presidential Race - the almost complete absence of "news" stories and media scrutiny of candidates' wives.

Every other presidential race has been rife with stories about whether so-and-so's wife will make the right kind of First Lady. Is she a good mom? Is she well-groomed? Is she too much or not enough of a "traditional" helpmeet? Did we get lots of picture of her visiting pre-schools? Oh My God - look at her hair!

Heh. Someone starts this now, they've got to compare the wives to Bill, and that's a real problem, any way you cut it.

It's only a small relief, but I'll take any that I can get during an election year.

Oh, it's only February. I expect them to start with that business soon enough. They're just not used to having anything newsworthy going on this late in the primary process.

Very true. It's a long election race. There's tons of time.

In my opinion, the race needs to be a lot more like a sprint and less of a trial of marathons.

Well, we did get some nice shots of Mrs. Kucinich and Mrs. Thompson, to spark some discussion of how those guys got so lucky ... But not enough.

Hasn't Michelle Obama had her share of couch time with Oprah already, though?

It IS kind of nice that as of yet I have seen no "cookie recipe" coverage.

But I SO do want to see former President Clinton's recipe for cookies. Do you think they have bacon in them?

(Don't they introduce former Presidents as President as a courtesy title. If Hillary wins do they get introduced as President and President Clinton?)

That was my thought - perhaps fried peanut butter, banana, and bacon cookies. Hell, I'd be first in line.

They have a dollop of white frosting on them.

The use of "President" as a courtesy title, while distressingly common, is incorrect. A former president is properly addressed by his most senior former title other than "President." Should Hillary win the office, they would properly be introduced as "President and Governor Clinton."

How are President and G.H.W. Bush introduced when they are in the same place? Has to have happened. Is Senior officially Vice-President Bush. Ambassador Bush?

Perhaps Hillary winning will at least force us to come to terms with the shocking improprity of saying "President Carter."

Elizabeth Kucinich didn't get nearly enough coverage, if you ask me. Nor did she give us nearly enough UN-coverage. And Dennis wanted to share the love by starting a Cabinet department? Hell, start at home. Share the wealth, dude. :D

Obviously the OP didn't see the Daily Show story on FLILFs. (http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?searchterm=flilf&search_title=Search+Results&x=15&y=11)

Dammit! We need to just start electing the guys with the hottest wives (or if female, the hottest candidates). We're never happy with the people we elect anyway, and it would do away with all this bullshit over caucuses and primaries and who lied or didn't lie about what the other guy said or did. (And let's face it: guys who look like Dennis Kucinich or Fred Thompson and gets wives like they have has got to have a lot on the ball!) No big fund-raising efforts would be required, no ad buys, no lies and no bullshit. Everybody can see what they look like and just vote for whoever's the prettiest.

And they'll love us in Europe. :D

I've been seeing more coverage of Michelle Obama lately (who seems really cool, incidentally. She's an Ivy League lawyer like Hillary but she comes across without any stridency or pretense and appears to adore her husband, regardless of her little deprecating jokes about his socks and his gassiness). We heard about Elizabeth Edwards' cancer. We haven't heard much about Cindy McCain (who started her relationship with John McCain while he was still married to his first wife, by the way. If he was a Democrat a huge issue would be made of that but IOKIYAR). I don't remember seeing a thing about Janet Huckabee.

You remember her first name, which is better than I could do.

What is your cite for this? The AP says refer to former presidents as "President Carter," etc. At least that was the case when I was still reporting for newspapers.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, Dumb and Dumber."

Now THAT I'm almost positive Miss Manners would say is incorrect. Possibly distressingly common......

Holy crap. I knew Elizabeth Kucinich was hot from her pictures but I didn't realize how hot. I wish we could vote separately for First Lady like we used to for VP. I would rather stick needles in my eye than vote for Kucinich but I would love to see her in the White House for the next 4 or 8 years.

Now there's a Constitutional Amendment I can get behind.
