Why haven't the election results been called in those two states yet? We have all this Florida hoopla recount business going on, but I haven't seen results for those two states either. I know it doesn't really matter at this point, I just don't understand why they haven't weighed in by now.

I've been wondering this myself. Anyone?

ABC declared Gore the winner in Wisconsin, but Oregon has only 72% of the vote counted although Bush has a 3% lead. Maybe after Florida, they're getting touchy about declaring states.

Heh. C-Span's website called Wisc for Gore already (with a 6000 vote lead)
But in addition to Oregon and Florida C-Span hasn't called New Mexico, either.
Go fig.

Most of Oregon's ballots were mail-in ballots, which means they'll take a lot longer to read. (Why? 'Cause rather than dumping a box of ballots into the auto-sorter to be counted, you have to open each envelope and remove the ballot one at a time).
Most reports I've seen say that Oregon's results will be finished tabulating by the end of this week.

I thought all of Oregon's ballots were mail-in ballots. How long does it typically take for them all to be counted, could they hurry it up more by requesting more volunteers to open envelopes.

All of Oregon's votes were mail-in. But Oregon had a turnout of over 80% and lots of them were dropped off on election day. Plus, they had some kind of problems with computers in Jackson County (Medford).
Now about 99% of the votes have been counted and KGW (http://kgw.com/kgwnews/top_story.html?StoryID=8863) (Portland TV station) has declared Gore the winner in Oregon. And if you can't believe the TV, who can you believe?
