I have the feeling it's gonna be a blowout.
Two very worthy contenders. I have to go with:
Sympathy for the Devil
I'd have gone with Gimme Shelter against any other song, though.

If you asked me tomorrow and I might have gone the other way.
Though Rocks Off is actually the best song The Stones wrote. (was it even in the competition?)

It got creamed by "Shattered" in the second round.
The consolation is that whatever wins in this competition it's going to be an awesome song.
Even though it should have been "Can't You Hear Me Knocking." :p

First quarter score, Sympathy jumps out to an early lead over the purists' favorite.

BTW, the Glimmer Twins was the title Keith & Mick used as producer of albums. I hope the title didn't throw anyone off.

Tony Carr's book on the Stones has this fantastic deep blue picture of Keef, seemingly illuminated only by his amp light and the glow from his cigarette, with the caption "Keith glimmers in the gloom."

Gimme Shelter - the only Stones song you need....And it only takes five strings, two fingers and one asshole to play it!
(Gimme Shelter is in open G tuning, and Keith has said the 5-2-1 thing about open G. Sympathy for the Devil is played in standard tuning.
Besides, I can't think of any other songs with one-chord verses, much less any good songs with one-chord verses.)

What's wrong with that? Great song, awesome bass riff, perfectly nasty lyrics. Why, oh, why did they let Christina Aguilera sing it in Shine a Light? I haven't even heard it yet (the double CD will be arriving from Amazon any day), but the very idea...gak.

Ah well, my favorites didn't come in; but as the Stones sang,
May the Good Lord shine a light on you
Make every song your favorite tune
May the Good Lord shine a light on you
Warm, like the evening sun
