Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tO2jcwgIi8o)'s a trailer.

Having never seen even the slightest bit of an episode of the old animated series, I'll register my opinion. It's an opinion I fear I will suffer for. It's an opinion I am terrified will be confirmed as foolish once the movie actually comes out. But to be perfectly frank, I think the movie looks

awesome.

I should probably elaborate.

I think it will, without question, suck dog dick.

But that's just my opinion.

My fear is that multi-million dollar movie will be made of a crappy cartoon series that I made fun of when I was 12 years old.

Oh, wait, that already happened. :(

Anybody want to talk about In Bruges or Chop Shop?

I fear (and hope) that I will continue not to care one way or the other.

I think it'll be awesome. How can they screw it up? Make it campy? It was originally. Make it silly? It was originally. Make it cheesy? Wasn't it originally?

I'm afraid that they're going to mess with the theme song. Can't do that.

The series had some weird cold war overtones, IIRC.

The movie? I have no fears, hopes or illusions for it.

It's not going to be about car racing. The FX shots we've seen show no car racing at all, just random FX and X-TREME drifting. Physical objects don't move like that.

There is a language to racing cars. Cars got it right. I don't think the Ws will, based on what passed for a car chase in their previous movie, that was nothing more than an FX sequence on a highway.

The movie looks like it's not about cars, or racing, so I'm pretty excited. Go speed racer, go!

Didn't the cartoon feature a monkey or a lemur or some kind of primate?

Chim-Chim?

He's in the trailer - in the scene with the brother in the trunk of the car ("It was HIS idea").

I fear this will suck. It'll be interesting if they do the Mammoth Car (http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r102/ObeesHotRod/thspeedracer2.jpg) sequence.

If they don't have the GRX in there somewhere, it's a fake.

Though I must admit, a scantily clad Trixie could make it all worthwhile...

The only way they can screw it up is IF Johnny Depp plays any role into this movie. That, or they have little flashbacks to Speed's (or, Racer X's) wicked childhood. I hate when Hollywood tries to psychoanalyze, like the Grinch or Depp's Chocolate Factory!

When's it being released? I haven''t heard anything about it since last Xmas! Here he comes, here comes Speed Racer... - Jinx

Skip the ADD inspired editing and barely covered Trixie and check out nekkid Ricci in Black Snake Moan.

My fears are that everyone will be talking about it, my friends convince me to go see it, and against my better judgement I'll concede and see it and, even though everyone of my peers think it's the greatest movie of the year, inevitably hate it (I have so far never been wrong about pre-judging a movie I expect to dislike).

That's what happened with Sin City.

This is unlikely to happen again, though, as I have learned my lesson. More likely I'll just ignore the hype and forego seeing it entirely.

I never watched the show as a kid -- it looked silly and stupid. The upcoming movie looks glossy and slick and way the hell too clean (there's no dirt in the world of Speed Racer! None!).

I'll pay about as much attention to this as I did to the Mario Brothers movie.

I just hate that trailer. All trailers these days! Exactly alike! Slow montage of characters with dialogue over the top, setup, brief hint of story, then someone says a long sentence edited into a few bites, everything goes quiet, they finish the sentence, then BAM, fast montage of ACTION SCENES! Makes me hate the movie before I see it.

Eh, I'm just ranting. It sure was colourful, though, which I like.

I watched Speed Racer diligently as a kid, to be sure - but I don't have a fanboy connection to it whatsoever. It isn't Spiderman or LOTR or something where the canon is sacred or the switch to organic web-shooters is worthy of big debate, IMHO...

I think the trailer looks big and splashy - I love the sensory overload - BUT only if there is decent storytelling going on. A coherent plot, and coherent directing which carves a narrative path through the bright colors and CGI Oooo-shiny!-ness of the visuals...

If that's the case, cool beans - I'll take the kids and have some popcorn myself...

I'm also a little concerned that the actor's lip movements won't be in sync with the words.

It's a movie where cars have boosters that let them fly through the air. It'll be as realistic about auto-racing as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was about sword fighting.

It looks dumb, but in a spectacular over the top way. Say what you will about the Wachowskis, they know how to film big-budget special effects based action scenes like no one else. I'd rather it got released a little later, 'cause it looks like the perfect movie to escape from a 90+ DC summer day into.

(I have so far never been wrong about pre-judging a movie I expect to dislike). This reads as if you make up your mind before seeing the movie (based on what, you don't say), and you will allow nothing to change it. I read it as "I may have liked Sin City, but I convinced myself before watching that I wouldn't like it, so no matter what, I'm not going to like it." This may or may not be true, but it is how your post reads.

Some movies I look forward to and hope I will really enjoy. The results are mixed, though the majority of the time it's been worth the look, and sometimes a joy.

Some movies I have no opinion of, not sure if I'll like it or not. Also mixed results, but likewise more often than not I am pleasantly surprised by it.

But there are some movies I get a gut feeling from the outset that they won't appeal to me. On some occasions, usually at the urging of friends' recommendations, I've looked past that doubt and seen such a movie anyway, honestly giving it a fair chance. But every time my doubts were vindicated and I've disliked the movie after all. It's rare that I will have such strong negative feelings for any given movie, however Speed Racer is one of them, based on the ugly trailer; my dislike of the Wachowski's work; that I've never seen the original Speed Racer; and that I don't like Anime.

Yeah, that's how it works for me, too. If my friends talk me into seeing a movie I don't want to see, it always ends up being terrible. The Medallion and Lost in Space stand out in that shameful field.

I used to watch the cartoon every day after school on Cartoon Network back in the mid-90's. I thought it was supremely goofy, but in a really fun way.

I think the movie looks awesome, and Emile Hirsch is really hot. Sold!

The trailer makes me feel old. Loud, fast, loud, colorful, loud, cutcutcutcut editing, and LOUD!

Plus, it's loud!

I would be pleasantly surprised if there were an actual story to be found within. Some actual, human relationships between people who care for one another and look out for one another and worry about stuff. Not just this moviemaking for nine to 15 year old boys we keep getting.

I felt the same way about the Bratz movie -- I didn't see it, but the trailer looked as if there were a chance it was more like Mean Girls than like a music-and-shopping fantasy movie for pre-teen girls.

*shakes fist* Eh! You kids! Get off my lawn!

But they're played by two different actors in the movie...

It'll be like Transformers. Fun enough for six-year-olds who have never seen the original, but disappointing to adults who hyped it in their minds it'd be funner than their memories recall the original, which really wasn't all that.

Easy. They can screw it up by trying to play it serious.

I'm mildly interested in seeing it, but I won't be sobbing broken-heartedly in the aisles if it sucks.

The chimp in the trailer looks pretty cringe-worthy, but the other actors are all fairly decent. On the whole: eh. :)
