It is a pain relief medication. Brand name is Percocet.
It is a combination of acetominophin (Tylenol) and a codeine derivative. Used for moderate to severe pain.
Since it is derived from morphine, it has the drawbacks of other opiates (constipating, addictive, can make you drowsy, etc.).
Lots of stuff on the web if you look.

It's a triple. In otherwords, the pharmacy has to complete forms in triplicate for oxycondone. I think the cops get one form, the pharmacy one & you the other one?

Oxycodone is the active narcotic ingredient in Perocet. Percocet contains both acetaminophen (Tylenol) and oxycodone.

[another minor nitpick]
Oxycodone is not codeine. Oxycodone is man-made - not an opiate, but an opioid (i.e. the term opiates is reserved for drugs obtained from opium: respectively morphine and codeine).[/another minor nitpick]

Your doctor keeps the third. Drugs prescribed under the Controlled Substances Act are rigorously tracked to the level of the individual pill. In Texas, anyway, prescription blanks for narcotics are numbered and issued by the state to doctors. If there is a high number of blanks used, the doctor has to justify himself.
