Well, it is somewhat timely that I just saw the thread for "songs that feature studdering" and now I'm looking for songs that reference car crashes...

I've got a few so far (mostly in the emo/punk vain of music)

Brand New- 70 times 7
Spill Canvas- Sunsets and Car Crashes (its just the title)
Brand New- Failure by Design
Pearl Jam- Last Kiss

there a few more I can't find in my music library... does anybody else have any ideas?

Ringo's song "Don't Pass Me By" (on the Beatles' White Album) contains the line "You were in a car crash," which IIRC was one of the "clues" that Paul was dead.

Teen Angel - Mark Dinning (The gist of this song was that the heroes' car stalled on a railroad track with a train coming. They escaped in plenty of time, but the girlfriend runs back to retrieve a class ring, with hilarious results.)

"Tonight is the Nght I Fell Asleep at the Wheel" - Barenaked Ladies
This is a first-person account of a crash by the driver. Fantastic lyrics.

and
"The End of the Tour" - They Might Be Giants

This bit seems to be first-person from the car's point of view:
Never to part since the day we met
Out on Interstate 91
I was bent metal you were a flaming wreck
When we kissed at the overpass
I was sailing along with the people
Driving themselves to distraction inside me
Then came a knock on the door which was odd
And the picture abruptly changed

The Smiths-There is a Light that Never Goes Out
And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine

She's Spanish and I'm American-Car Crash (This is a great EP)
I don't wanna die in a car crash
I'm in the back of a taxi cab, and we're moving so fast
I've got so much left to give, so much left to live for
to think that it's finally over, though
don't wanna die in a car crash ♬

Does "30,000 Pounds of Bananas" by Harry Chapin count?
Sure (at least to me as non-OP)! Even though it's a silly song, the lines "And he said 'God, make it a dream' / as he rode his last ride down" still give me chills.

"Passage" by Vienna Teng.

I died in a car crash two days ago
was unrecognizable
when they pulled me from the gears
No one's fault, no one's bottle
no one's teenage pride or throttle
our innocence is all the worse for fears
The other walked away alive
arms wrapped now around his wife

The same song also contains one of my favorite verses of all time:

This part of the song is called the second verse
It sounds just like the first verse but with different words
It only has three chords and they are A D G
They are A...D...and G

"Tell Laura I Love Her," by Ray Peterson. The song has been covered a number of times by a number of people, but Peterson did it first, in 1960. He hit the Top Ten with it that year.

It's a typical 50s/60s teen car crash song: Tommy (the hero) wants to ask Laura to marry him, but he has no money for a ring. But there's a stock car race coming up, and the prize money will buy Laura a fine ring. Tommy enters the race, but...

No-one knows what happened that day,
How his car overturned in flames,
But as they pulled him from the twisted wreck,
With his dying breath they heard him say,
"Tell Laura I love her...."

It's a three-tissue song, according to a young lady I once knew.

"I Want My Baby Back" by Jimmy Cross

That's a great one- would anyone believe a song about necrophilia could hit the pop charts- in 1965?

It's been many months now since that fateful night
and you know something? I've tried.
Believe me, I have tried
but I just can't make it without my baby.
So, I've decided I'm going to have her back
one way or another.
Oh, baby, I dig you so much.
Hot dang! Pay dirt!

(sounds of coffin being dug up, our hero climbs inside)

I've got my baby back
Now, I've got my baby back
I love her, oh, so much
Can't live without her touch
I've got my baby back

Oh, another. Lynyrd Skynyrd's "That Smell."

Whiskey bottles, and brand new cars
Oak tree you're in my way

From here (http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=1706) :

This is about Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington, who bought a new car, got drunk, and crashed it into a tree, then a house ("whiskey bottles, brand new car, oak tree you're in my way"). The band was supposed to start a tour in a few days, but had to postpone it because of Rossington.

If you want some '80s music in there, there's
Crash by the Primitives - a pleasant little pop ditty that was a radio hit; not about a car crash per se, but about living life in the fast lane
and for icelandic rock, Motorcrash by the Sugarcubes - Bjørk and friends before she became a star

There's a bike crash in Jethro Tull's Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll, Too Young to Die:
Up on the A1 by Scotch Corner
just like it used to be.
And as he flies --- tears in his eyes ---
his wind-whipped words echo the final take
and he hits the trunk road doing around 120
with no room left to brake.

And he was too old to Rock'n'Roll but he was too young to die.

There's Long Black Limousine (performed) by Elvis. The funeral in it is caused by a car crash:
You know the paper told how you lost your life, oh yeah
The party, the party and the fatal crash that night
Well the race upon a highway, oh the curve you didn't see
Well you're riding in that long black limousineI don't see why it's not on the Wikipedia list really.

It was the first thing that I thought of too, but then I remembered it's about a plane crash.
That is the obvious interpretation because of the line, "We were flying low and hit something in the air."

I remember friends arguing about whether it was a car or plane crash because we used the same phrase to mean driving really fast (the "flying low" part, not the "hit something in the air" part). We never reached any definite conclusion (but that may have been more about being stoned than being convinced).

The linked video was released in 1986 by the original singer. (The song charted in 1971.) In the video it's clearly the aftermath of a car crash. Hardly a definitive answer, but that's why I linked to that particular video.

"Car Crash" by Cloud Cult, a great band from Minnesota.

In the middle of the car crash
He told me he loved me
With a keychain wedding ring,
What you say we get married?

"Rachel's Song" by James McMurtry and the Heartless Bastards

I wrecked the El Camino,
It would've been DWI
So I just walked off and left it,
Laying on its side
And the troopers found it in the morning
They said it's purely luck I wasn't killed
I probably ought to quit my drinking,
But I don't believe I will.

wow page 2 and I get to list 2 songs?

Morphine, Pulled over the car is a song about falling asleep at the wheel and crashing

MC 900 foot Jesus, New Moon is a song about a car crash/possible suicide. lyrics are kinda unclear but she definitely crashes the car in this one.

Soundgarden has Limo Wreck...only vaguely about a car crash though
