While my son was visiting we looked up several funny songs on you tube
will someone please tell me how this freaking link thing works now?

Trauma to the Groin by Heywood Banks really makes me laugh.
DaVinci's Notebook does Title of the Song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=281ax7Ovlsg
is one of the cleverest songs I've ever heard.
I was wondering what funny songs, ditties, or parodies other dopers liked. Links appreciated but not a necessity.

I like John Valby. Dirty, dirty man. I doubt you'll want to share his ditties with the kiddies.

Yah, I had a couple of old cassettes of his stuff. Pretty funny but it got old after a while. Like Dice Clay, the same joke over and over.
Some really great parodies though. His version of the sound of Silence was great.

The track "The Lay of the Surfers (http://www.amazon.com/Lay-Surfers-2007-Digital-Remaster/dp/B000TS10AM)" off Robert Calvert's Lucky Leif and the Longships concept album is a good Beach Boys parody.
Honest, I'm not obsessed with Hawkwind. It only looks that way.

Well, my favorites are the old classics -- Tom Lehrer, Spike Jones, Flanders and Swan, the Bonzo Dog Band.
However, probably one of the funniest since them is Bowser and Blue's "Working Where the Sun Don't Shine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_N0w2rORwSc)"
I also like "Carrot Juice is Murder (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmK0bZl4ILM)" by the Arrogant Worms

I'm a fan of The Element Song by Lehrer.
This is a fun video that has been changed, I guess because of copyright stuff. It's still good!

Tim Cavanagh's Drunk with Dignity (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pV1Yq90eyrk).

http://www.privatehand.com/flash/elements.htmlWhat changed? I saved a version of the swf from 2006 and the only changes I saw were in the intro text on the opening screen.

The_Arrogant_Worms (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Arrogant_Worms) have created a lot of fun music, including The Last Saskatchewan Pirate, a farmer giving up the farm for a life of piracy (yes, in southern Saskatchewan) and Jesus' Brother Bob who finds being the wind beneath Jesus' wings less than satisfying.

Towards the end of his life, Les Crane, who recorded Desiderata, said he couldn't listen to it without gagging and much preferred the National Lampoon spoof version.

Yes. Someone told me about them back in June, and I also like "Canada is Big" and "Ontario Sucks."
The Toronto Song ('Ontario Sucks') is actually by Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie. (Scroll down to the bottom here (http://www.arrogant-worms.com/discs.php) for a cite from the Worms' website.)
It is a screamingly funny song, though, which is all the more reason to make sure the credit goes to the right group.
(My favourite song actually by the Arrogant Worms is Rippy the Gator (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLvSI14Oou8), and as a Newfoundlander, A Night in Dildo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqrhGxdL8pA) is a close second (Both links are YouTube vids) - Carrot Juice is Murder and Last Saskatchewan Pirate are also awesomesauce. (LSP is the only one of the four not on Russell's Shorts, which is clearly their most perfect album.))

The old master from an era before Weird Al: Allan Sherman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnhCJdJRMUQ&feature=related). Again (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1AA9N-mEV0). Unfortunately not on YouTube: I See Bones (parody of C'est Si Bon); Here's to the Crab Grass; Getting to be a Rabbit with Me...

When I was about 9, I cracked up to a parody of countrysong "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZYcqlEZxGQ) titled "Tubby, Please Take Your Love to Town", with lines like
She's leaving now, 'cause I just saw
The truck back to the door
With 20 men to load her up
They could have used 3 more
OK, pathetic. I was 9 years old, whaddaya want?

Dr. Demento's "Shaving Cream" was (originally?) done in the 40's by a guy named Benny Bell. Now these are old school funny songs that I remember my parents playing when I was a kid. I think they were on those big black CDs.
Some of his catalog is available here (http://www.archive.org/details/BennyBell) for free download.
