I recently sat with one cat on the headrest of my easy chair, one cat in my lap, and the dog on the footrest. I greatly lament that no one was around to capture that moment. And it proves your point, really. If it's just the dog in my lap or on the footrest, it's kind of a mildly annoying situation, neutral at best. But add in two sleeping kitties, and tada! You've got perfection.

Ginger kitty is cute. But B&W kitty has the cuteness of a leg dangle, so s/he wins the cuteness contest, IMO.

I dunno. Almost-sleeping kitties are cuter. Especially yawning kitties. Licking-each-other kitties are pretty cute, too.

OK, I thought of something cuter. Two of my cats will sleep in the front windowsill, facing each other, with their front legs wrapped around each other. The male will rest his head on the female's head...THAT is cute. But they always wake up when I open the front door.

Yes, sleeping puppies.
I accidentally deleted it, but last night I was the recipient of a picture of a big crate filled with blankets, chewtoys, and a pile of six(!) dachshund puppies, who had clearly had a very exciting day and were just (sorry) dog tired. It was the most adorable little bundle of ridiculously short legs and long ears you could ever possibly imagine.

My cat sleeps with his face mashed into the back of the couch or crammed between seats of the sectional. It's the cutest thing ever. We periodically stop what we're doing to go "Awww!"

That'd be Tony, my new male feral rescue kitten.

Pepper would agree with you. And so would I; nothing to do with the fact that she's my first cat, of course!

Cuter than sleeping kitties? When they're sleeping on someone.

Okay, who wins between leg-dangle and ridiculous position (http://www.flickr.com/photos/troubleagain/3033222914/)? Brown kitty is Rio, orange kitty is Punky.

In my opinion, awake kittens tend to be cuter than sleeping ones. Awake kittens give you kisses (with tongue). Awake kittens playfight with the resident grumpy cat. Awake kittens go 'mew' and have those irresistible round eyes.

I dunno, but the other night when I was cleaning up bloody pawprints* on the hallway carpet, and the living room carpet, and the office carpet, and the kitchen floor, and the bathroom carpet, I said to Mr. S that from now on we should get only carpets that are blood-and-shit**-colored, to hide the stains.
Is your sofa the color of a freshly horked-up hairball?
-----
*It's lots of fun bringing in two rambunctious dogs from outside, noticing bloody prints on the floor, and then trying to determine which one is bleeding, catch her, AND wrestle her into the bathtub. Oh, and we were already dressed to go out. We both did some fast stripping, let me tell you.
**Recalling an unfortunate diarrhea incident a few years ago that involved two weeks of medication and replacing several carpets. It was just easier to throw them out, trust me.

The only thing cuter than a sleeping kitty is two sleeping kitties.
It's a rare occasion in our house, so I just about melt into a puddle of squee if I happen to catch two balls of kitteh sleeping in huddle formation (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2096/2165089902_cc3f49f516.jpg).
Most of the time, Ariel prefers to sleep solo (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3078/2806390389_97eb500e55.jpg) so as not to distract from her personal cuteness.

Those are just beautiful cats! Where did you find them? Aww, thank you. The gray one was a shelter kitty that my sisters picked out for me as a kitten for my 23rd birthday. She passed on at the ripe old age of 22, about 3 years ago.
The dark kitty is our current kitty, and she was also a rescue, but we got her from a rescue group. She was 5 years old when we adopted her about 2 1/2 years ago, so she's a little over 7 now.
Rescue kitties are absolutely the best!

I believe I said so in Fuzzball's first appearance, but that kitten is just FULL of teh pounce. And he is, indeed, exhibiting Xtreme Qtness.
Yes, he is Mister Raaaar no doubt about it.

Of course, a puppy can out-do a kitten any day.
Shut your mouth! I've never heard such nonsense.

Strangely, I don't have many sleeping kitty photos. I should remedy that!
The quality of these two pictures is bad, but they show two Big Fat Kitties each failing at fitting into the box: Halley in a box (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v101/jsgoddess/?action=view¤t=halleyinabox.jpg) and Orson in the same box (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v101/jsgoddess/?action=view¤t=Orsoninabox-1.jpg)
And then there's Albert (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v101/jsgoddess/?action=view¤t=albert021308_006.jpg) who fell asleep while grooming. He stayed like that for at least 10 minutes.

Maybe it's the same couch that just goes from house to house to house. Maybe there is only one couch.
Just like there's only one fruitcake! :D

Oh, and for the "weirdest positions" award, I nominate my (http://gallery.opalcat.com/gallery/pixie/misc_kitties_and_more_013?full=1) older (http://gallery.opalcat.com/gallery/pixie/pixie_contortionist) kitten (http://gallery.opalcat.com/gallery/pixie/pixie_sprawl?full=1) Pixie (http://gallery.opalcat.com/gallery/pixie/pixiesleep2?full=1) the (http://gallery.opalcat.com/gallery/pixie/pixie_027?full=1) naptime (http://gallery.opalcat.com/gallery/pixie/pixie_049?full=1) contortionist (http://gallery.opalcat.com/gallery/pixie/pixiesleep1?full=1) kitty (http://gallery.opalcat.com/gallery/pixie/pixie_052?full=1)
Your Pixie kitten looks strikingly (http://athertonia.org/xmas06%20cats2.jpg) like (http://athertonia.org/sweepykeekee.jpg)my (http://athertonia.org/alextummy.jpg) Aleksandra (http://athertonia.org/alex-in-basket.jpg).
She, however, thinks she looks like me (http://athertonia.org/copycat.jpg).
Nikolas (http://athertonia.org/nickysleep.jpg), on the other hand, is just a big ol' ball of sleep.

Molly's adorable, but she's disqualified since she isn't sleeping!

Pffft. Who doesn't? Here's Rio (http://www.flickr.com/photos/troubleagain/1863445491/in/set-72157602651317786/)checking out sperfur's kitties on her picture page.

I don't know what it is about cats and sleeping as close to your face as they can get - we have two that do that now (it used to be just one, but the other one seems to have gotten on board with it!).

Anyone have a picture of a puppy sleeping with a kitten sleeping next to a baby sleeping
That would pretty much cinch the competition

Tony, the kitten, has decided that near my feet is the best possible place to spend the night. It's interesting to wake up in the morning with a ball of fuzz on your toes.

Awwwww, yes, I love them all so much! Especially the human underneath all the kitties. :)

Ah yes, the "If I fits in it, I sits in it" rule. No, I believe that the pics in question display the "Boxes contain cats" rule, as the cats don't exactly fit in the box. On the other hand, that box doesn't exactly contain the cats, either...

I just had to update this thread, since Pepper and Tony have managed to outdo themselves on the sleeping cuteness scale. From 1 to 10, this one's an 11 (http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/2171/peppertonysleepingoy7.jpg)!

Ah yes, the well-known Orange Cat/Gray Cat "T Position" with the gray cat forming the crossbar... good form, good form. (See my previous submission (http://gallery.opalcat.com/gallery/pixie/kittens_039?full=1) for another example)

I am regularly surrounded and pinned (http://bp3.blogger.com/_dQuacLNyX8E/R7TWSsmrJxI/AAAAAAAABJo/d0t8G1JofKo/s1600-h/IMG_8909+(Large).JPG), ala Gulliver.

I think, in a competition for cutest/coolest sleeping cat picture, this one (http://www.seodisco.com/images/firefox-boob.jpg) wins on soo many levels!
(of course, not my pic, but I'm sure you already know that)
