I know for sure it will say on the blue screen when you start up (before logon)
It MIGHT say if you right click my computer and go to properties, and it MIGHT say if you go to NT diagnostics on your start menu (under admin tools, i think).

Muppet's second method works; the first one doesn't. Alternatively, you can go to "run" on the start menu, type "winver" into the dialog box and hit return. But ... service pack six is out now (and has been for a while). Is there a specific reason you haven't updated?

Actually I have service pack 4. I'm installing IIS and one of the steps is to make sure I have at least 3. After I install the otpion pack I have to re install the latest service pack so I guess I'll have 6.
Thanks for the help again.

Whatever you do, don't install service pack 5 and 6 for NT 4.0. If you need the active directory crap, go install win 2000. Both of these fixes can not be unistalled! The only reason to install them is to fix a problem, not general maintence.

Hey, John? Why should he install a whole new OS, as opposed to just upping NT to the latest service pack?
Oblong, if you have the dreaded SP4, I strongly suggest you go up to the latest NT sevice pack (I think it's 6.1).

I will. I'm doing it on Tuesday afternoon.
This machine is used mainly as a file server for 8 PCs. It will also host a small web interface for a database on the system. Will I see an improvement? I'm only doing it to upgrade to IIS 4.0.
