Inspired by Skald's recent thread (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=10481440&posted=1#post10481440) involving time traveling and stealing artifacts it is, no matter which way you slice it. I thought of a new question:
If you could travel back in time for one historical event in which betting would be involved ( sports, presidential elections, who wins an oscar...) what event would you pick.
You can only use that time period's money. So, you have to steal or borrow the local currency since your debit card or pocket full of quarters is hardly going to be accepted by the bookie.
Semi-Recent Sporting Event
I think I would pick The Miracle On Ice (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracle_on_ice)in 1980. I could use my currency today ( most of it would blend in with what was available and I wouldn't have any language difficulties.)
