...and I'd no sooner eat just one kind of pizza than drink only one kind of wine."

John Denver said that.

For me, today, it would be a Godfather's combo: beef, sausage, peperoni, mushroom, black olive, onion.

From the comfort of your couch you can pick up the phone and 45 minutes have delivered a meat lover's pizza, a dozen wings and a 2 liter coke. No matter what else is wrong with our country, this ability alone places it permanantly in the category of "a perfect society."

Sorry.....

Give me a good Canadian bacon and pineapple pizza once a month. Is that too much to ask?

And not ham! There is a diffference!

I could live on pizza. And chili. If there's two things I could live on, it would be pizza and chili.

Pizza topped with mushrooms, onions, and sausage. Add perhaps a side of ranch for dipping, and that my friends is what I call my Tuesday evening.

Pineapple and olive pizza. Online ordering was invented so people like me could order pizza without all the incredulous looks.

My reasoning is - I love Hawaiian pizza, but I'm vegetarian, so I need something salty to replace the ham or Canadian bacon.

I don't even need to pick up the phone! I can order pizza right from my TiVo. Ordering pizza with your TV remote is oddly satisfying.

I loves me a "SMOG mit"...sausage, fungus, onion, green pepper, green olives and banana peppers, double sauce, Chicago cut (square cut), thin crust. Da missus likes a Canadian bacon, pineapple and fungus combo. Northern Lights Pizza, a Des Moines chain that, TBTG, came to the KC metro area makes the best.

And for chrissakes, please tip the delivery guy.

And for chrissakes, please tip the delivery guy.

The last pizza* we had delivered we ordered online and paid for with a credit card. I added the tip then. The pizza got there quicker than it ever had before, with extra peppers and dipping sauce tossed in gratis. The delivery guy thanked me for the tip most effusively, which makes me think most of the people in this town are cheap bastards who stiff the help.

*It was a Papa John's Tuscan Special, for those of you who are keeping score.

my favorite pizza of all time may very well be a Pineapple and Pepperoni, perfect balance of sweet and salty.

I also used to be a huge fan of garlic, feta, and olives (ocassionaly replaced with mushrooms, and occasionally I'd add some basil into the mix as well) from a local joint near my old house. No meat, but sometimes that's a good thing.

not that those are the only two pizzas I'll eat, but they were my favorites. I even found a damn fine pizza place in Japan (surprising cause the pizza here is beyond crap at most places. I actually thought a japanese friend was joking the first time she ordered a CORN and MAYO pizza around me) to satisfy my cravings

I luckily have a pizza place only a block from my apartment. When I want to celebrate something, I'll order a pizza from there. My recent favorite has been "cheese, sliced potatoes, mayo, perilla, and cod roe sauce." Absolutely weird combination of ingredients... but absolutely amazing.

ETA: PopeJewish, don't knock Japanese pizza! Tuna, corn, and mayo may not be your thing, but some of this stuff is fantastic!

Gotta say, on the whole, most Japanese pizza is pretty crappy. They just don't make it right. I mean, weird ingredients aside (in america I went to a Whole Foods that had a Thanksgiving pizza, which included turkey, gravy, and mashed potatoes) I just haven't been satisfied with the majority of pizzas I've tried at various places here. That said, I've found a few that are decent and one that is quite good. On the whole though, and I feel it's the same with hamburgers, the Japanese just don't quite get it

A masterpiece of creativity for the 80s. Just like it sounds: pizza crust with a salsa-y sauce, onions & ground beef with frech lettuce, tomato & cheddar.

I wish Pilsbury had left the recipies alone when they bought the chain. Godfather's might still be around.

J'accuse! You sir are a John Denver hater! You just cannot accept that he said something profound so you must tear it down. There are many types of wine, there are those made from grapes of different colors, and if you just stick to wines made from grapes you will have a multitude of different varieties to try. But there are also wines made from things other than grapes, such as honey (mead) and other fruits.

My favorite toppings are mushrooms and black olives but I will tolerate almost any pizza topping, including anchovies, but no pineapple - no way, no how! It can go anywhere else but pineapple touching tomato sauce and cheese does not work for me. And yes, I have tried it. I love pineapple in many different forms but it does not work with tomato sauce and cheese. Cheese and pineapple alone, as in cheesecakes or cottage cheese is fine but cheese, pineapple and tomato sauce is just wrong. If it were such a good combo there would be pineapple baked-ziti, pineapple cheese ravioli, pineapple manicotti. Bleh, must stop now, making myself sick.

If I make two pizzas, one with all meat toppings and one with all veggie toppings, and I tell everyone to grab some "pizza", they'll equally grab for either.

If I put out apple wine and grape wine, and tell people to get take some "wine", they'll all take the grape (except the guy who's trying to be persnickety) and if I say to grab the "apple wine" they'll all take the apple.

But yes, I did space out a bit on red versus white. That's probably a large enough difference to call them different types of wine (similar to say, goat versus cow milk.)

As I posted in a previous thread, I'm generally not one for strange pizza variations. However, there are two exceptions:

Pizza Hut's Buffalo Chicken Pizza--I only wish they had it all the time.

The other came from my old college hangout, The Road House in Staten Island. They made a pizza with double cheese, oodles of fresh garlic and, instead of the red sauce...

...wait for it...

Green peppers, onions and mushrooms. That's how I always order any pizza if the store allows me total freedom in toppings.

I suspect I'd love the taste of sausage on pizza if it were Kosher.

Amici's East Coast Pizzeria makes one called the "New Haven White Clam Pizza". I've been leery of such a thing, but if you can vouch that it's good, I might just try it next time.

Spicy pepperoni, bell pepper, tomato, cheese, and maybe jalapeno, on tomato sauce. With Papa John's garlic dipping sauce. I am so hungry. Or Chicken, bacon, and pineapple on bbq sauce. Or pepperoni and pineapple. Or a really good hot plain cheese. Or a sauce-stuffed crust - one of those frozen cheese pizzas, doctored up with pepperoni. Excuse me, I need to go eat dinner.

Pizza: not only a perfect but an ancient food. For thousands of years, mankind has been eating things on flatbread. Extra toppings are a sign that you are morally questionable.

Question my morals all you like: I like my pizza like my friend Brian likes his women: as long as something's there, I'm all over it. Thin crust, normal crust, deep dish, super Chicago dish. Pepperoni and mushrooms and oregano. Four cheese. Supreme. Fresh pizza is best, but in a pinch I'll call a crappy chain and get greasy bread in a box with extra grease cheese and greasy discs of greasy meat on top. If I love myself I will have a Real Pizza with basil and roasted garlic. Mmm.

Thanks to this post, I am now aware that pizza cut into SQUARES is called Chicago Cut Pizza!

I didn't know there was an actual name for this. Pizza TRIANGLES aren't nearly as good!

Where is the cracker-crust thin square cut pizza of my dreams???????

That would be my BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT EVER :D

BTW, does anyone know if spinach on pizza is pre-cooked in any way? The grocery store was out of veggie pizzas so I got a cheese and will be topping it myself. Just wondering if I can throw my fresh spinach on there before baking and have it come out like it's supposed to.
