We had this discussion last night over dinner.
Can you name any movie that Patrick Swayze has either starred in or had a prominent role in which he didn't get into a fight?
We came up with:
Ghost: Yup, there's a fight.
Roadhouse: well, duh.
Outsiders: He's a swinging in this one.
Dirty Dancing: Brawlin' in this one.
Next of Kin: Patrick kicks ass here as well.
Red Dawn: Not a fistfight per se, but he does shove a kid to the ground and throw dishes at him.
I checked the IMDB but I hadn't seen any of his movies other than the ones mentioned. Does anyone know? Or is ol Patty gonna track me down and kick my ass just for askin?

If Patrick Swayze is the toughest man on earth, Denise Richards is a nuclear physicist, and Keanu Reeves is the one.

The real P.S. is a bit more vulnerable than his screeen counterpart. A few months ago he nearly cracked up his plane making an emergency road landing in Northern Arizona. There are reports that locals disposed of the beer cans littering the cockpit but it is known that there was a cabin pressure leak which effects were compounded by his chain smoking.

Shhh! If he hears you he'll KICK YOUR ASS!! lol... There's a shockwave game about that plane landing thing.

Maybe not toughest man, but he certainly is the President of the Dance

In City of Joy I don't think there was so much of a fight than Patrick just getting socked in the kisser. He played a doctor who apparently doesn't kick a little ass on the side.

Oh come on. This is the guy that sang "She's Like the Wind" we're talking about here. How can you possibly think of giving him "toughest man on earth" status?
Was there any fighting in To Wong Foo? I didn't see it, but it doesn't seem like it woulda had any.

Oh dear. I hate it when I hear this kind of urban legen going around.
Patrick Swayze is in fact the second toughest man on earth, the first is as we all know: STEVEN SEAGAL!
In my high school there was a an underground Steven Seagal society that idolized him as a leader and we all swore to live our lives according to the buddhist principles he has laid forth in his interviews, books and movies. It was still going strong when I left, although there aims had wandered more towards buying beer kegs and renting Steven Seagal movies.
*sigh* Those were the days huh?

OK, so to update the original list, we now have:
Ghost: Yup, there's a fight.
Roadhouse: well, duh.
Outsiders: He's a swinging in this one.
Dirty Dancing: Brawlin' in this one.
Next of Kin: Patrick kicks ass here as well.
Red Dawn: Not a fistfight per se, but he does shove a kid to the ground and throw dishes at him.
City of Joy: He gets punched in the piehole.
To Wong Foo: He kicks some more ass.
There's gotta be one. Look at this (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Swayze,+Patrick) list and see if you have seen any of the movies other than the ones I listed. Is there any without a PS fight scene?

If you criteria is strickly fighting, I think Jackie Chan wins hands down. Who else maims themselves making every movie?

Right, but Jackie Chan starts in MARTIAL ARTS movies! Fighting is an integral part of the plot. In many cases, PS's fights are just on the fringe and can be left out without changing the story.
I envision this scenario: PS in the producer's office and is reading a script: "It's about a Down's Syndrome man who becomes a successful gardener and then opens a shelter for abused boys with the profits??? I LOVE it. However, I think I should kick the handicapped guy's ass.
I just gotta be me!"
And in case anyone is missing the point, I don't truly think that PS is the world's toughest man. I am not arguing about who the world's toughest man is. I just want a movie that PS is in where he's not fighting.

Well, you could put that in the title of the thread instead of what you have.

Just as you could read my first post in the thread, or the one right above your response.
Ps definitely does some fighting in Point Break. Also was a hockey player opposite Rob Lowe in Youngblood. Again fighting, this time on the rink.

Your best bet is gonna be Three Wishes or Tall Tales. I never saw either, but Tall Tales was a Disney flick and the other was a family movie.

There's some movie where he plays this modern-day genie guy. There's some kid and his single mom in it too. Don't know what it's called, never saw it, but from the previews, I'd say it's a good candidate for a fightless film. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I don't believe there was a fight scene in Three Wishes, but I must set the record straight here. Roy Dupuis (Michael on LFN) is the toughest man on earth. AND he's VERY attractive to boot (with long hair, mind...) Hehehe..... ;)

Patrick Swayze is not the toughest man on Earth. As has been previously proven on this board, Don Knotts is the toughest man on Earth.

LFN ... LFN ... Hmmm,
League of Football, Nationally?
Loopy Friggin' Nitwits?
Lost Finger Nuts?
Lapp Finland Network?
I give up. What's LFN?

I must confess to having seen Three Wishes. PS does not get into a fight (at least from what I can remember - it was a couple of years ago). He does get hit by a car though but only broke his leg. Would that qualify to continue this "toughest man" thread or not?
Necros
12-06-2000, 02:50 PM
It probably would still qualify him as long as he doesn't whine like a sissy when his leg gets broken. :)
Wolverine
12-06-2000, 02:58 PM
No, he didn't whine. He played the "tough man" not wanting to stay at the people's house who hit him. He was really shy and polite.
Are me and my brother the only ones to get confused between Kurt Russel and PS growing up?
NothingMan

Don Knotts in his prime would kick PS ass.
So would about 10 other people I can think of . . . and #1 would be Jackie Chan. There is a difference between ballet dancing and martial arts.
PS - that pretty face couldn't take my sisters fist.
Loved "Road House" - the man is good. In real life though . . . I just don't think so.

No, I think we've got a winner. "Three Wishes" it is. Thanks xizor and Wolverine.
And that's not to say that I wish for the discussion surrounding this fine actor to stop. Please continue with all things Swayze. Except heartfelt renditions of She's Like the Wind.

We're talking about the TV show not the movie, right? Is it even still on the air?
Hey, shut up, man, I'm cool. You're lucky my chick is here.

Actually, I don't know if it is still on the air either. No cable, ya know. And I think I only saw it once when it was on...

I've got two words for you guys:
Emo Phillips.

I um, like She's like the Wind....(hey, I loved Dirty Dancing growing up...so sue me)
What's the deal with Emo Philips? Did he have a stroke or something? I mean, his speech just sounds odd. (not that I mean that in a nasty way)...
How about: Stephen Hawking? He could like have some weaponry in that chair of his....

PS was also in the film "Black Dog". It's a truck drivin' movie that my wife likes for some reason. I don't remember him hitting anyone in that film. Just a lot of truck drivin', and agnst.

Toughest Man on Earth. (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0088291) It's a shame IMDB doesn't have any pictures, but we watched it in the store the other day, and customers commented as such: "Wow! He's taking on four guys! He really IS the toughest guy on earth!!!"
Don't get me wrong, I can recite long, long passages from Dirty Dancing. I'd never dis Johnny Castle. But...just view the link.

I believe PS did fight someone in Black Dog but it was quick. Just a punch or two. Have to rewatch to know for sure but I'm not up for it.

SHE'S LIKE THE WIND
by Patrick Swayze
She's like the wind through my tree
She rides the night next to me
She leads me through moonlight
Only to burn me with the sun
She's taken my heart
But she doesn't know what she's done
Feel her breath on my face
Her body close to me
Can't look in her eyes
She's out of my league
Just a fool to believe
I have anything she needs
she's like thARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!! Damn!! Who through that brick??

Not that it matters to anyone, but in Disney's Tall Tales PS played Pecos Bill, I can't remember much of the movie, but I can't imagine any movie with Pecos Bill not fighting (I do remember a scene where he's riding a tornado)
