View Full Version : What does "DLUR, TRKE" mean?
On page 148 of Triumph of the Straight Dope, there is a question about the lyrics of "Blinded by the Light". The questioner included a signature of IMSMRTRTNU, which I assume means "I'm smart, aren't you". Cecil responds with URSMRTRNI, which I think is "You're smart, aren't I", followed by "DLUR, TRKE", which as far as I can tell is a contraction of a Klingon phrase. Some help, anyone?
Yup. At least I got two right. Partly. This does confirm my theory that Cecil sometimes writes using a code that only his more intelligent followers can decipher. It also helps explain the all-too-numerous occasions when everyone in the room looks at me funny, because I'm the only one that didn't "get" something.
Oh, well, times-a-wasting. Okay everyone, let's all "Seize the Fish!" Now why are y'all looking at me that way again?
And another thing--it wouldn't hurt for Cecil to include the answers to his little puzzles in the back of the book, if only to avoid embarrassing episodes by fervent-but-confused followers. I was sure that "DLUR, TRKE" were instructions to "de-liver trekkies", i.e. harvest human livers. Why? How should I know? Do I look like "The World's Smartest Human Being" (TM)?
At a minimum, the books should have warning labels. Anyway, once the ice in the bathtub melts, I don't know what I'm supposed to do...
Also, Cecil uses too many "big words".
Its getting cold... very cold. Although that's understandable, given the circumstances. Its also getting dark... very dark. Hey, there's a bright light! In the shape of a Circus Peanut! Now I'm heading toward the light! See you on the other side!
[Special message from **the other side***]
Umm, could someone please nominate me for a Darwin award. Thanks.
Another Circus Peanut? Don't mind if I do. The ultraviolet ones sure look yummy. I think I'd like one of the ones in the shape of a hypercube.
Nice place you've got here, Cecil^H^H^H^H^H... excuse me, I meant to say, Your Omniscience...

You need to read the letters out loud. Also, you need to notice that Cecil's first comment has a ? after it.
I M SMRTR TN U = I am smarter than you
U R SMRTR N I ? = You are smarter than I?
D L U R = The hell you are
TRKE = Turkey
Got it? R U N-V-S ?
