Got our Norwegian Elkhound pup yesterday. Adorable and instantly took to our American Eskimo. I thought maybe the Elkhound was a little shy (aka "scared") around sudden movements which made me doubt the breeder a bit. But come to find out, she was trying to play and is just a bit clumsy still. Paper trained already, and seems to fit in well with everyone except the cranky cats.

Ok, I know what you're here for. Pictures. I could post a bunch of links, or just point you towards the photo album. Feel free to ignore the 90something birthday pictures

Maybe this is the Ultram is talking, but life just seems a little more pleasant with an elkhound in the house.

I could do without the needle sharp teeth catching my nostril, however. That was moderately unpleasant.

What a cute little wubba.

I have an Elkie who's almost 15. Here he is when I brought him home at about 10 weeks (ears up!)

Our first elkhound, when I knew nothing about the breed and was stupid enough to buy from a pet store, I was afraid I was going to end up with a gray german shepherd for a while. I was also a little worried because several people who didn't know what they were talking about assured me that elkhounds were huge dogs when grown. The size of a puppy's head and feet seemed to support that, but they grow up to be the perfect size dog, IMNSHO.

ETA - Gizmo looks like a good one. 15 years? Congrats, I hope you avoided the dysplasia and eye problems that pet store pups sometimes have. :(

Yes, we did. I did lots of research and bought from a responsible breeder who screened for hip dysplasia and eye problems, thyroid too I think. He's been a great dog - even now, his only major health problem are due to old age - arthritis, senility, and cataracts (late onset, not when he was young). He'll be 15 in March.

Good luck with your little one. Fun (and fur)!

To clarify, the birthday pictures are of a 90+ year old Lebanese woman, there aren't 90+ birthday pictures. It seemed awkward as I typed it.

Puppy is still doing good. Still awkward and not entirely sure where she's supposed to poop, but she's getting there.
And the Eskimo is hiding from her.

I only really stick to one rule. Other than that, my wife can do what she wants. NO ANIMALS IN THE HOUSE!

So what does she do? In addition to the multitudes of "outside" animals? She goes out and gets a Weiner dog!

Sure, he's cute. Yeah, he's a nice little dog. But GODDAMMIT! He has to stay in the "anti-chamber", which to me is part of the GODDAMN HOUSE!!

Thats it. I'm starting an affair with an 18 year old.
