I have been getting intermittent errors all day. Is it just me? I haven't seen anything else about it.

Off and on since yesterday. Still getting them.

I've gotten three so far this morning.
My scroll wheel won't scroll the page. It works every place else, but not the 'Dope pages. Hm.

My scroll wheel won't scroll the page. It works every place else, but not the 'Dope pages. Hm.Make sure the Dope page is selected. If not, no scroll wheel will work. And make sure the page is larger than a screen and has scroll bars at the right. You can't scroll something that doesn't.
I had one timeout this AM where a post I submitted had to be done twice.

Search is hosed. Database errors each time.
Manual nav works OK.
If this doesn't go through, add "posting is messed up" to the list. (And by the way, this email is to let everyone know that the email server is down until further notice....)

I've been getting the occasional database error for a few weeks now. But hitting Refresh has always worked, so the hamsters are just being inattentive, not taking two-hour coffee breaks.
It's not clear if Jerry's recent announcement relates to this problem or not.

Yeah, I've been getting them on and off since yesterday.

Also on and off yesterday. It's been a bit slower today, but I haven't gotten an error message today yet.

Intermittent for me as well.
Sometimes after getting one I'll have to close that window and open another before it'll work.

Reasonably frequently, yes. I've just got another one trying to search. And of course I now have to wait another five minutes.

A couple today, yes.

Perhaps its due to one of the hamsters being arrested (http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,25007289-5013016,00.html) as a murder suspect.

It's not clear if Jerry's recent announcement relates to this problem or not.Same here. I'm still getting them sporadically, but a refresh fixes it immediately with no drama, so it's not really a big deal.

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 9 bytes) in /home/straightdope/boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/search.php on line 1007
Been happening since the upgrade. Depends on the words being searched for.

Uh oh, I think the board just broke again, I just got a databse error a bit ago, and then recently when I posted the thread didn't float, update its post count, or show new post information on the index.
Edit: Okay, it just did, but it took a minute. And yes, I'm certain I didn't hit back instead of navigating to it.

Me too. They're getting common again. I reckon it won't be long before we see another whitescreen message telling us that the board had to go take a doo doo.

I get them and plain white screens a couple of times per day
Happens every time I search, both yesterday and today. Or should I say "search"?

Adding a note re consistent experience over the last week or so: Search pretty much never works the first time.

I don't search all that often, and have only been on the site for a half or so, but about every other time I try to load a page, it doesn't end happily.

Just got one trying to load the GQ forum. I've been getting them randomly for at least a few days, at least.

For pity's sake, fix these damned errors! Please!
The constant barrage of them for six months is unacceptable.

It's really off and on ... DB errors were blocking me out of this site for the past 10 minutes. But just now -- I got right in.

Last couple of days I've gotten a lot of hanging pages, "page not found" errors, and the like. Mainly when I'm trying to load a forum (not a thread).

What pisses me off is, I often get "Database Error" when I search -- and then the system still counts it as a search and I have to wait 5 minutes to try again.:mad::mad:

Yep. I get that 3 out of every 5 searches.

Alas, I can vouch for this type of error. I just got:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 24 bytes) in /home/straightdope/boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/includes/class_core.php on line 3278
while attempting a search in GD. Sounds like you folks are running short on RAM or something.

I get that, but usually it's only certain words that trigger it.

We're still having problems/error messages with the search function and probably will continue to do so until we are able to migrate to another search engine. This is on the list but we don't know when that will happen. Jerry will get to it as he can.
From the "current status" update thread:
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10175229&postcount=1
Next Priorities
Review multiple threads reporting problems and amend Next Priorities list
Review whether to rebuild the internal vBulletin search engine index so that the 1.3 million restored posts will be keyword searchable. This may be skipped if it seems server intensive. Installation of a new third party search engine will eventually resolve this issue.

I'm having issues quoting posts. Maybe I can do a quick reply...?
ETA: Yes, that works. How about editing?
ETA2: Quoting works now.
