View Full Version : Poll for Feud players:
Dolores Reborn

Recently I updated the rules to say that answers (not whole posts) will be disqualified if formatting rules are not followed. (that's what I meant, at least.)
It's actually worded ambiguously:
If they are not followed, your answers may be DISQUALIFIED.
1. answer
2. answer
3. answer
4. answer
Next week, starting Monday, March 3, Rules will be enforced. I will still accept answers where typos are present. Nobody's perfect all the time! It's the blatant disregard of the formatting rules (or lack of reading them!) that I'm talking about.
The Poll:
a) only disqualify poorly-formatted answers
b) disqualify the entire entry
I will let this run until Saturday morning, 10:00 am.
Let me know what y'all would prefer.

disqualify the entire post. The rules post is there for a reason - if you cannot follow the rules, pay the price.
Question: if the post/time limit hasn't been reached, will you allow a properly formatted repost (of the original answers only)?

Yes, but I'm not going to issue warnings/reminders - because I might not always get there in time.

Another reason to disqualify the entire entry is to give someone who DOES understand the EXTRAORDINARILY SIMPLE rules a chance to play.

My own opinion, for what it's worth:
If there's only one inappropriately formatted answer, disqualify just that answer. It may have been a typo or an "everybody makes mistakes"-type lapse.
If there's more than one, disqualify the whole entry. That shows disregard for the rules, and an entry with multiple disqualified answers probably wouldn't be competitive anyway.
But really, I'd go with whatever's easiest for you.

Entire entry but give new feuders a second chance, I know I made a couple of mistakes when I first started playing.
Dolores Reborn
02-24-2009, 10:55 AM
Ok, that sounds fair. I will have to ask that other Feuders point out (or PM them) their mistake, though, and they can repost within the time limit. I might not get back in time.
I can't always keep up with how new a "new" Feuder is.
How does that sound?

Do you need some sort of label for reposted entries, or does your magical scoring spreadsheet make them obvious?

The whole entry. As previously mentioned, it's not rocket science, and also, it's just an online Feud game. Getting dq'ed from one game shouldn't be a huge deal. You learn your lesson, you come back and play the next one.
Entire entry!
Then I'll be #21 instead of 22!
Seriously - the entire entry should be disqualified. This is The Dope - we need to follow the rules.

My vote is for disqualifying the whole entry if there is a lack or understanding or disregard for the rules.
I do not see a problem with reposting a corrected answer sheet before the deadline but we should not have to police it for who is new or should know better. They should catch it themselves. I know everyone is hurried but once you post you can proofread and edit for 5 minutes.
I mean, it's a daily feud, what's the worst that could happen... they have to sit out until tomorrow? Seems a fair punishment to me.
You do that, you go to the box, you know. Two minutes, by yourself, you know and you feel shame, you know. And then you get free. - Denis Lemieux in Slapshot

No, it's not magical! I'd just have to notice there is a second one. Actually, it won't matter, because their first entry won't be entered into the spreadsheet, so I would just put it in normally.
There seems to be a concensus already!
And you guys rock, too! :D

I second this, although I saw what you said. It's not like we're off doing the work grading these things. It's simple enough to follow the rules, although also I tend not to read your rules every time since I've done tons of Feuds, they're almost always the same and I want to be careful not to read into the other contestants answers. It can be tough to spot when there's a tweak.

a) only disqualify poorly-formatted answers

I don't see that it matters that much. First of all, how common is it for someone to mis-format on some but not all of the answers? Second, if an entry has disqualified answers in it, even if the valid ones are still counted, the disqualifications are probably going to be enough to sink that entry's total score into the basement.

Yeah, agreed. Plus, the rules are pretty hardcore. It's pretty hard to NOT follow them, unless a feud-submitter adds a new rule, like "No googling."

Big red NEW RULES! wasn't a clue? ;)
Not when it never changes. Or there is always something big red and shiny in the front. Heck, I'd get killed by a city bus if a shiny quarter was on the pavement in front of it. Now if you used a color that wasn't always there I ~might~ read it. Like bold large purple font. And maybe put a date in front since I know you have to leave stuff out there for a while since folks might have not seen it since the last time that they played.
Of course a handwritten personal memo dashed out to my attention would be much, much simpler for me. :: ouch, quit hitting me::

It matters because Rebo has to reformat them to score them. If she has to do that for one or two answers for each of the 50 entrants, that's a huge waste of time.
Secondly, if you have read said rules, they include how the scoring is calculated!
All entrants scores are affected by valid or disqualified entries.
And third, if Rebo allows a feud that may have an extraneous rule, it is up to her discretion as to how she will score it.

You should check out the entries that are wrong. Find out where the poster lives. Then go their home and show them how to do it properly. After awhile, the problem will be gone.

Delete the entire entry, notify the mods, and have the poster banned. :D
But seriously, if you knock out individual answers, you'll end up with freaky scoring where some questions have 50 answers worth 2 points each, some only have 48 or 49. Maybe the spreadsheet can account for that already and it's not an issue.

Yes, it acoounts for it just like a "pass" - as long as I edit the answer to make it unique. That's why you see pass1, pass2, etc.
I don't know why I decided to let this go until Saturday. We have a conch, for sure.
It is more effort for me to only disqualify badly formatted answers, as I'll have to edit that response.
So I believe the concensus will be to disqualify the whole post.
I've enjoyed some of your more creative answers!

entire entry. it punishes the stupid and it also makes for better competition - instead of someone with only maybe eight or nine answers we'll now have a contestant who might actually have 10 answers and stand a better chance of winning. Eliminating the weak and stupid will make the overall level of feud contestation evolve to unrivaled heights.

On embossed, engraved, high quality stationery. Shibb has really high standards.
It's his morals that are questionable. :D
I say disqualify the entire entry and make the offender wear a scarlet D, stand in the public square and be ridiculed by the masses.
Or spread a rumor about their ugly furniture.
