I have noticed that in some threads people answer questions as a guest (usually this is older threads). How does one get to be a guest?

It's people who were registered under the old regime (UBB), and weren't converted to the user database in the Great Winter Revolution of 2000.

The vbBoard supports people not registering to post, but obviously with the troll problem as it is, they disabled that. So since these old posts don't appear to the board to be registered, it assumes they are guests.
