They don't preclude serious answers and indeed they bump the thread so others who may have more to add will see it. Manhattan is perfectly aware of this (and everything else in GQ) and regards people who are not aware of this and start saying "Just answer my fucking question" as idiots.

However if there is a question to be answered and flippant or argumentative posts are getting in the way of it, he will act. It is with great humility that I come back to this thread. In all honesty, I forgot I even posted it. Reading the thread about grienspace got me thinking about it.

Looking back on the the thread in question, I realize I reacted inappropriately. The only reason I bring this up now is that I wanted to respond to Manny here rather than in an email so the rest of you could see it. I'm sure he's forgotten but I feel I have to do it.

I think every school had a brother eugene.....

By the time the Brothers had me in their clutches, corporal punishment had ceased. thats not to say some of them still had their switches. They probably wished they could go back to the old days on many occasions.


One of the funniest was when I was in first year. I was 12 yrs old. There was a Statue of Edmund Rice with his hand on the head of a young boy, standing beside him. his hand wasnt touching the boy. Remember that, its important.

One day, the statue (which was about 4 foot high, and made of marble) went missing. all that was left was the plinth.

The Statue turned up, 2 days later on top of a wall overlooking the main road that ran beside the school. The boy had been broken off, and was now placed standing face inwards into the E.R's midsection.

A Joker-esque smile had been painted onto E.R's face.

They never found out who did it.
