In a similar story, Petrified Creatures, not far from Cooperstown, New York, is falling apart, and I think it has closed. It was the first dinosaur land I visited as a kid, and I was able to take my daughter there and dig for fossils in their pit and buy a copy of The Golden Guide to Fossils in their dust-encrusted gift shop, but the head of the T Rex was supported on a pile of wooden braces, and the rest of the concrete dinos were crumbling.

I hope they can fix him. I love that inaccurate beast. The dinosaur trail is what I looked forward to the most when going to the Museum of Life and Sciences as a kid.

Was it small at one end, much, much bigger in the middle, then small at the other end?

It would confirm my theory.

This morning's Raleigh News & Observer reported that the head was found in the woods, however it was damaged and they are reviewing whether it can be restored.

I remember going to see that as a kid. I saw a picture of the recovered head in the News & Observer this morning; it didn't look so great.

I drive by that poor beast a few times a week and was very sad to see this. It's not in great shape even with a head--I really hope they can restore it. (Though finding the head at least explains the news crew I saw parked in the field in front of the bronto last night.)

That sucks. I'm sure Dippy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dippy_(sculpture)) sends his love and good wishes.
