If the new iPhone (or other handset just coming out) were a desktop computer, what type / era would it be equivalent to in speed and graphic ability?

How long do you think it will be before our phones are equivalent to a quad-core pentium and Engadget is showing shots of someone running Crysis on the newest HTC?

The iPhone 3GS has a 600MHz processor. It's probably faster than a 600MHz G4 or Pentium. So, that would make it roughly equivalent to a desktop machine from 2001 or so, except that it will run for hours on a battery the size of a matchbox. Rumors are already starting that Apple will introduce multi-core iPhones in the next year.
