Can you guy recommand me some good strategy games that work on Window Vista? A lot of fun games like Hearts of Iron, Europa Universalis, and Civilization IV doesn't work on Vista.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

CIV 4 doesn't work? Did you run the full install, including DX9?

And did you try running in, what's it called, "run as administrator" mode?

No I haven't tried installing it however on the back of the package it says it's requirements are for only Windows 2000 and/or XP.

That's because it predates Vista. It should run in Vista.

I can confirm that Hearts of Iron 2 and Civ 4 both run just fine on Vista. So does Rome: Total War.

As does Medieval Total War 2.

Civ 4 works fine on Vista. I was just playing it, as a matter of fact. It doesn't need to be run in compatibility mode or anything, either.

Most games were published before anyone even knew about Vista. Vista doesn't use a reliably different architecture, so it's usually possible to get a game running, by either Running as Administrator or right-clicking the program and selecting a Compatibility Mode. Play around with those, or just go through with the install and see what happens.

In rare cases, you can google "Game Name + Vista" and there may be official or fanmade patches so the game will run more smoothly.

But while we're doing suggestions :D Sins of Solar Empire, Demigod, and Red Alert 3 are all fantastic strategy games.

Europa Universalis III runs fine on Vista. It's advisable to install it outside the system directory path, in a new directory such as c:games\eu3 or whatever, to avoid UAC and file permission issues.

Sword of the Stars (http://www.swordofthestars.com) will run just fine under Vista.

So does EU2. In fact, I got dollars to bet Eu will run on Vista just fine, since I believe it has the same architecture (but updated map, graphics, events, and rulesset).

EU2 on Vista requires you to rename the AVI sub-directory so that the intro videos don't run, and also preferably run it in XP-compat mode, but yes it runs too. I have no idea about the original EU under Vista.

While we're at it, EU3 also runs on Windows 7, with a few tweaks.

I also run Civ4 on Vista - and multiplay it across both my network (with a Windows machine) and across the Internet.

I didn't do anything special to run it except download the patches.

Civ4 : Colonisation also works perfectly well (it does say on the box that it works under Vista).
