Sierra City, CA--a tiny, tiny (250 people!) mining town in the Sierra Buttes. Actually, I wasn't born in the town, but in a log cabin along Highway 49. There were eight-foot snow drifts outside, and my dad delivered me himself.
My brother was born in town, two and a half years later, in the room above the bar/pizza parlor my dad owned. During Happy Hour. My dad delivered him, too, and my mom came down after the birth to have a glass of wine.
I swear to God that I'm not making any of this up.

Yeah, we can see that it's NON-FICTION! Not the plot, but the people. Worked with a Tennessean woman who adored it and quoted it at length, then we had to go to Mankato on business and I pointed out LeSueur (Le-SEW-er) as we passed. Then the receptionist could have been one of the hookers! A priceless look on my friend's face.

I really enjoyed this thread, so I'm going to give it 1 (one) bump to see if more people would like to contribute. It was fun the first time around, why not try it again right? Uhh, RIGHT??

I was born in a 6 foot by 6 foot shack in Fern Forest 5 km uphill from Kilauea caldera on the Big Island of Hawaii. Imagine that in 1974.

Best place of all, San Francisco, California. Unfortunately, can't afford to live there any longer.
Gadarene - Sierra City is both beautiful and funky! Probably a good place to grow up in but I'd still take San Francisco any day.

I was born in Goirle, the Netherlands. 25,000 inhabitants now, and about 9,000 when I was born. The village dates back to the Bronze Era. It's surrounded by woods and farmland, and it's quite a lovely place.

Born in Pensacola FL, and raised across the bay in Gulf Breeze. A sleepy little town known for it's UFO sightings. Oy...what a claim to fame.

Markdale, ON
The golf course in Markdale owes it's existence to me. The town doctor was in Owen Sound (25 miles away) playing at the nearest golf course, and they had to chase him down to deliver me. He decided he needed a closer place to play golf, so he donated a farm he owned on the outskirts of town to set to course up.

The day I was born, there was an earthquake in Cincinnati. Portents of things to come, I'm sure...
Or maybe that was just Nixon's impending first election.
