Failed rightfielder Milton Bradley has been suspended by the Cubs for the rest of the season. It's pretty likely (at least I'm hoping) he'll get cut in the offseason. I doubt any other team would take a chance on him next year, unless they only have to pay him the minimum salary.

I feel real sorry for him.

"I need a stable, healthy, enjoyable environment," Bradley told the newspaper. "There's too many people everywhere in your face with a microphone asking the same questions repeatedly.

"Everything is just bashing you. It's just negativity."

Here's a thought. Why don't you go out and get a job, punk?

Gosh, who could have foreseen that Milton Bradley would be a gigantic fuckup.

The fact that Cubs were stupid enough to pay him $10 million a year brings me no end of joy. It's just the most recent joke involving the Cubs, along with the perennially overrated Piniella, the tarnish of Sosa, and their constant failure despite a huge payroll. It makes me smile.

You can't cut a player in baseball. Their contracts are guaranteed. I'm not entirely sure how the contract is written but the Cubs are very likely on the hook for the rest of that deal and I'm not sure they will be paying a guy $20M to sit at home. Glad we let DeRosa and Woody go for this clown.

What Omniscient said.

According to Cot's Contracts (http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2005/01/chicago-cubs_112114177768677294.html) (great site), Bradley is owed $9 million for 2010 and $12 million for 2011.

There is another aspect of the contract which says:2011 may become $12M club option with $2M buyout if:

* Bradley has more than 75 days on DL in 2009, or
* Bradley is on DL at end of 2009 season with specific injury and not on active roster by 4/15/2010Bradley's played 124 games so far this year, so i don't think that's going to kick in.

As for his performance, in the games he's played this year, he's been pretty much average. His OPS+ is exactly 100, his EQA is .271, and he has 6 seasonally-adjusted batting runs above average. Despite a couple of well-publicized bonehead plays, like throwing a fly ball into the stands with 2 out and runners on base, Bradley's fielding has also been just a touch above average.

Of course, you don't want to pay 8-figure salaries to average players who piss off half their teammates and disrupt the organization. Although, as someone who hasn't really followed Bradley that closely, i'd be interested to know how much of the boneheaded behavior reported about him is media hype. I'm not saying it is; i really don't know enough about him to know.

And ditto on the game company thing.

I wouldn't be surprised if growing up with that name affected his attitude as an adult.
