So, Im reading the Belisarius saga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belisarius_series) and am fascinated as I have not really done much research into the Indian subcontinent ...

Anybody else read it?

I have, it was fascinating, much of it is historical, excepting the parts that are not.

It's one of my favorite series; I've re-read it repeatedly.

I've read it a few times. I liked it. Eric Flint's writing style grates on me a little though - everyone spends a bit too much time congratulating themselves on their own cleverness.

Try "The General" series too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_General_series. Also plotted by David Drake, but written primarily by Steve Stirling. It's an SF/after civilization's fall series that's based on the actual battles Belisarius fought.
