Why can't I bookmark certain pages?

I wanted to reference a particular map on this site.

I went to this site http://sirius-ci.cst.cnes.fr:8090/HTML/information/frames/applications/science/welcome_uk.html Aviso Applications.

That, I could bookmark.

But when I went to the link "RMS of Sea Level Variability" and then clicked for a closeup of the map, and took a bookmark, it was the same url!

How can they be the same?

When I right-clicked and asked for properties, only part of the url was returned, so I can't even check that way.

It's using frames. The URL you bookmarked was for the frameset, which actually contains two frames - the "navigation bar" on the left, and the current content on the right.

For Netscape on the PC, right click on the portion of the display you want to bookmark, and you will get an "add bookmark" choice among other things, such as "open frame in new window", and "view source" allowing you access to that particular frame. I imagine IE has similar functionality for dealing with frames.

AFAIK, only IE5.x allows opening frames in a new window.

It's the same in IE, except it's called "Add to Favorites..."

I guess they felt "bookmark" was too confusing.

That got it, and I was able to post it.

I backed off of my IE 5.5 installation because of unexplained crashes.

But I do have Navigator around here somewhere.
I just forget I have it.
