When I was a kid I recall reading a book that I would like to get to read to my kids now. It was around the mid 70's when I read it and the story is as follows:

A spy finally tires of the cloak and dagger life and decides to retire. He buys a castle and settles in. Soon strange things begin happening and he decides to dust off his spy kit to get to the bottom of things. After some sleuthing he finds the castle is haunted by the ghost of a medieval spy. The spy and ghost become pals and while away their evenings sharing their spy experiences with each other.

Sorry I dont have the author or publisher. Searching on Amazon.com turned up nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

John

Sorry, I don't recognize the story but I do have a suggestion. Call your local public library, ask to speak to the Children's Librarian, and read her your post. I'll bet a nickel that before you're halfway through, she'll say, "Oh, yes, that's..."

Maybe The Haunted Spy by Barbara Ninde Byfield? There's at least three books in this series about a spy and his ghost friend who investigate historical mysteries.

Thanks for the input. I haven't had a chance to get to the library yet but maybe tomorrow I can ask the librarian for some help.
