My socks are puddling around my ankles.

I've not worn these socks for a couple of months and the elastic in them is disintegrating. Actually, I have a couple other pair in the closet that crackle when I tried to pick them up.

Is the air too dry in my room? What else would cause the elastic to fall apart like this? The socks I wear more frequently do not appear to have this problem.

It's not the dry air. Two words--age, and cheapness. All elastic will do this eventually, but your better quality underwear manufacturers (brand names like Fruit of the Loom) use better quality elastic, which lasts longer before age causes it to lose its snap.

AFAIK, there's no way to fix it. Throw them away and don't buy such cheap socks. :D
