The American Statistical Association has a column in AmStat News entitled "Statisticians Comment on Status of Climate Change Science (http://magazine.amstat.org/2010/03/climatemar10/)" in which the Thomson paper is cited as 'the paper that convinced me of the connection between CO_2 and climate change'.
But you read it on the Straight Dope first.
