I heard this 80ish - 90ish song playing this afternoon and wanted to followup on it. My goodle fu is weak as all I can get is Elvis Costello's song. Not Duran Duran, but similar big atmospheric sound.
The refrain "less than zero" is repeated at least twice in the song.

That's it! Sorry for the false lead. I'm just an old man (whimper).

I googled the meaning and it was kind of interesting.
[double rainbow guy voice]But what does it mean!? (http://www.thefixx.net/showthread.php?threadid=436) [/double rainbow guy voice]
Love that the "The Fixx" fans call themselves "Fixxtures".
Greetings fellow Fixxtures,
I was at work the other day and during break I was explaining about maybe having a picture taken at my wedding with a Fixx cap on. Well a woman that I work with was asking who the band was and what songs they sing. I told her that they sing One Thing Leads To Another, Red Skies, and Saved By Zero. You know…. the tunes that most people would remember. She said that she remembered the tunes and she also said that Saved By Zero was a depressing song because it’s about suicide. I’ve heard that same interpretation from other people before. Now I’m sure a lot of you Fixxtures out there already know that suicide is not what the song is about but just in case anyone isn’t sure then let me give ya a few words taken directly from the Shuttered Room/Reach The Beach songbook that also quotes Cy on the meaning of Saved By Zero……
The Fixx’s impressionistic songs are inspired by events in their lives as well as in the world around them. “Saved By Zero’s” minimalist view came from the experience of touring. “Part of the routine,” said Curnin “is becoming more lightweight, doing away with encumbrances. Zero is the point of relaxation.”

This was my first thought also. I grew up in a town where someone had as their phone number XXX-0000 and they had that song on their answering machine....

We went to see The Fixx last summer - they were absolutely excellent, in spite of playing a half-full casino. I'd recommend them to anyone. They hung around and chatted and signed autographs afterwards, too.
