My version of Windows Movie Maker (2.1.4028.0) is several years old, and I'm looking for the newest version. However, I haven't been able to find anything except for newer version which require Vista/Win7 (I'm still using WinXP).

Can anyone help?

try Windows Live Essentials (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/features/windows-live-essentials.aspx ). You need a free hotmail or live account

That's for Windows 7, though. I need the latest version for WinXP (SP3).

You have the latest version. The only other versions -- 2.5 and 2.6 -- are OS features.
